The first time he ran for president I switched parties to vote in a closed primary for John McCain. I was horrified of the prospect of George W Bush

Turns out I was right. Futile and useless but right

He was mostly reasonable till he lost that campaign. He has gotten nuttier and nuttier ever since.

"John, I don't drink and I've never served a day in my life. I do have some magic underwear if you want to borrow them"

I have never seen such base, crude, downright mean losers in my life. They make Nixon look like an angel. I wish LBJ could come back for just one day. McCain, Ryan, Cruz, Graham would be rolling on the floor sobbing when he got through. Now he was mean with a certain panache, and he didn't suffer askholes.

Romney's popped up now and then but, overall, has kept a comparatively low profile since losing.

McCain, by contrast, has made it very clear that he still thinks he'd be a better President than Obama.
