A 33-year-old Washington state man was arrested on Wednesday and accused of trying to kill his girlfriend after she refused to kiss him goodnight, the Bellingham Herald reported.

Brent J. Bruwelheide was charged with second-degree attempted murder for allegedly hitting the 36-year-old woman several times and choking her with a cell phone charger cord at the couple’s residence. He is being held on $1 million bail.

The suspect pleaded guilty nine years ago to charges of fourth-degree assault for a similar incident against a past partner. Bruwelheide choked the woman and threatened to killing her unless she took the blame for the attack when speaking to police. His girlfriend at the time later told authorities that she thought Bruwelheide would kill her if she reported his actions.

Police said that on Wednesday, Bruwelheide became enraged after his current girlfriend would not kiss him, and accused her of cheating on him as he attacked her. After being punched in the head and torso and choked, the victim lost consciousness.
