Politico on Chelsea Clinton's contract

http://www.politico.com/story/2014/06/chelsea-clinton-nbc-600-k-salary-107827.html?hp=l7

In a way, lucky her. I also wouldn't be able to secure a job in such an organisation without a degree in Journalism.

But this line of course, balanced the story out

Yet Clinton’s appointment did not mark the first time NBC Universal had hired children of high-ranking politicians. In 2009, it hired George W. Bush’s daughter Jenna Bush Hager to serve as a correspondent on the “Today” show. In 2011, it hired Sen. John McCain’s daughter Meghan McCain as a contributor on MSNBC.

1. You've gotta spend all that campaign money somewhere!

Just imagine all the money the media takes in for campaign advertising, plus all the funds for promoting oil, coal, pharmaceuticals, etc., paid for by the Kochs and other corporations to make it sound like their products are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

2. Lots of people in journalism lack journalism degrees. And she has a PhD,

so she had plenty of experience with research and public speaking.

Of course her prominence had something to do with the job offer. But she's not unqualified.

And then there's Ronan Farrow . . . .

6. Maria Shriver started out getting her job because of who she was, too.

This shit does happen. If the person doesn't have any talent, they usually end up going away.

An organization like NBC, that does news, entertainment, and infotainment, and has a broad and wide reach, is well served by having connections they can utilize. When they hire a kid, the principal is more likely to give that interview (either on or off the record) to Brian Williams. It's all one hand washes the other. I'm sure when they hired Jenna they were thinking "Maybe she can con her dad into giving an interview," or "Maybe she can convince her uncle to take our call..."

They wouldn't make it a condition of employment, but perhaps a "Hey would you mind..." kind of thing and if they get pushback, it would be "Forget I asked, really..."

and that they're paying her that for her actual part-time work. No, that's not what she's being paid for. Duh.

Sickening.

I wish I could be that overqualified. How many people with doctorates don't even sniff $50k? That's more than Obama, and 3x what a congressman makes.

if you think the problem has to do with which political party they're in.

I don't think that's what the problem is.
