For the record, Just because I'm wearing a kilt doesn't mean you can touch me

I was out with a friend last night taking in some live music. I like kilts and was wearing my Stewart Black in a casual manner.

If I had touched random women the way a few random women touched me, management would have been all over me until the cops got there. LOL

Yes, there was alcohol involved, but still.

The most polite is hose and flashes.

The least polite is no lady would ask that. Now that that's established you're welcome to slide your hand up my thigh and find out for yourself.

I don't mind being touched, but please some form of communication first is appreciated. I was nearly tackled last night.

Traditionally the "braveheart flash" is an insult.

Both handsome men and handsome women.

But it's not the same for men and women in our society.

I could post a naked picture of myself here on DU (and I have) and nobody would call me a slut or anything worse.

Hell, my beer enlarged nipple photo post only got two comments, neither of them insulting.

Touching without permission.

I love the kilt and sporran! It's a great look, even with a casual sweater, sweatshirt, or dressed up, IMO.

I think that if I was a man, I'd move to Scotland so I could enjoy wearing a kilt and sporran as often as practical.

often say we wear the kilt here in the USA more than they do. I recently joined my local St Andrew's Society and look forward to joining them in many a kilted pub night. They try to have at lest one a month - official society function - but there's a pretty large group that doesn't wait for the one a month. lol. Plus there's a pretty long Highland Games season with quite a few events here and I imagine in other parts of the country too.

I wouldn't mind a hug at all, that's affectionate. I don't even mind being grabbed by the boob every once in a while, but once you've been groped in your really private areas or looked down and seen a dude looking up your skirt ... gross. The worst for me is being kissed smack on the mouth, this happens to me and I don't know why -- the last two times were at bars talking to people my friends and I met shortly before and bam, some guy plants a wet one with no warning. GERMS! And this was in Japan, not a kissy culture. Tongues are disgusting. The other day I was playing with a kittycat and leaned over to give it a kiss and the kitty went in to give me a lick at the same time and I FRENCH KISSED A CAT. A hard cold sandpaper tongue tasting of tuna and I refuse to contemplate what else. In conclusion, hugs are all right.

39. Nicely made new kilts
Mon Jun 16, 2014, 12:32 PM
Jun 2014

Will run you about $200-$300 in a "Poly-Viscose" material. These are synthetic wool blends, machine washable and some are treated with teflon, which means when some slob spills a beer on it it rolls off.

Some really nice vintage kilts can be had now and then on ebay and some thrift shops very reasonably. Being a big guy I never seem to find my size but I've seen them go for $100ish. If the wool is sound (no moth damage) a kilt can be handed down through many generations. Other than moth damage often the pleats will be incorrectly pressed most dry cleaners don't know how to deal with pressing kilt pleats and they come back crooked. If you send your kilt out for cleaning, it's worth it to baste the pleats down where they belong before it goes because then there's a good chance it will be properly pressed.

I expect to spend around $700 when I get my formal kilt, but it will be hand stitched and pleated to my specs.

Alexis Malcolm in Florida - she's been doing it for years and has outfitted many of the pipe bands around here. 8 yard, 13oz 100% wool pleated to sett (although stripe is an option too). I think the heavier weight 16oz would have been about 50 bucks more. Even though it gets hot down here I think my next one will be the full 16oz tank lol. Mine's knife pleat - I never thought to check if she does box pleats but if she doesn't there are many out there that do.

I am over-the-moon happy with mine however I should note it's my first so if there are things more experienced kilt-wearers might notice I couldn't say. She comes highly recommended in circles where I trust the opinions though. In fact, I believe you might run in some of those same circles.

(I would also like to note that I jumped in here with my unsolicited opinion so if you need to tell me feck off cause you already got your deal in mind i completely understand. )

Mon Jun 16, 2014, 04:58 PM

I expect she does a great job. Uniform kilts are a high standard.

I expect to pay so much because of the tartan, I will be getting it in Polaris (I rode an SSBN in the Navy), which isn't woven everywhere like the more popular tartans are.

As to pleating, I want a kingsuisse pleat, which is knife pleating in different directions to a center single box pleat. Probably to a stripe, but I need to see them before I make the final choice on which stripe.

Ahh yes, I hadn't thought of that - mine's pretty common (Heck, you can even get a flannel plaid shirt from LL Bean in my tartan sometimes lol).

I wish there was an online tool that let you pick a tartan and then see it in all the possible pleating arrangements. Someone should get on that! That Kingussie sounds like it will pretty much kick ass.

And management rarely call the cops on the gropers.

Dr. Jen Gunter, a 47 year old ob-gyn, recently wrote this in an answer to George Will's recent despicable column.

http://drjengunter.wordpress.com/2014/06/11/an-obgyn-writes-to-george-will-about-college-rape/

This weekend I was out dancing and experienced what I think you referred to as “micro-aggressions.” I had my buttocks pinched three times and my breasts groped twice. I was called a “bitch” and a “50-year-hag” when I politely declined hopeful suitors. Whether it is a cat call or a grope these actions represent sexual aggression and Mr. Will they have little to do with sex and everything to do with aggression. I wish someone taught those 40-something-year-old men in college that verbal assaults are not the appropriate response to “no thank you” and that pinching a women’s behind is not a mating ritual.
