The host of Fox & Friends on Sunday fell for an Internet hoax that feminists had hatched a plot for bringing down Fathers Day, and possibly ending men altogether.
As Death and Taxes reported on Friday, pranksters at the website 4Chan had created the fake social media campaign with the hashtag #EndFathersDay to to make feminists and the things we fight for look ridiculous. Other 4Chan social media hoaxes have included #WhitesCantBeRaped, with the another aimed at trying to convince CNN of a new pro-anorexia fashion trend called the bikini bridge.
Fox News host Tucker Carlson noted on Sunday that the hashtag had started out as a joke, but had been picking up steam with feminists online.
For analysis about what #EndFathersDay meant for American society, Fox & Friends brought in Princeton Mom Susan Patton, an anti-feminist whose recent book encouraged women in college to spend 75 percent of their time looking for a man to marry.
Theyre not just interested in ending Fathers Day, theyre interested in ending men, Patton warned. Thats really what they want.

(10,745 posts)There have been, unfortunately, a few incredibly stupid things coming out of the mouths of some of the fringe radicals over these past couple of years....."all men are potential rapists" being one of the best examples of such.
With that said, though, what *really* does have me concerned is that the right, yes, this does include most self-described MRAs, is taking the idiocy & the craziness of the fringes and running with it, and making it sound like most, or even ALL of us feminists, female or male, think that way. We don't.....just as most supporters of social justice don't believe in white people having literal collective "privilege", or that People of Color are somehow magically immune from holding racist attitudes or committing racist acts, etc., most feminists don't believe that all men are potential rapists, or even that women are immune from sexism, etc.
And that's one of the reasons why we have to keep our fringes in check; because the right has been easily able to mislead the public by using them to tar and muddy our image.....

(11,841 posts)I've seen several commenters being adamant about that. I dont understand HOW, but its there. Also mentioning the fact that some women use made-up sexual charges to further their goals. (accusing an estranged husband of child molesting in a divorce case) THAT will get you called everything in the book.
And why the heck would they try to fool people about being pro-anorexia? People DIE from that and they think its funny???
Never spent any time on 4chan have you? The place is a festering hole, and they think it's funny BECAUSE people die from it. There are some twisted folk on the interner, and 4chan (especialy the B/random board) is one of their meeting places.

(27,275 posts)They are not talking about individuals. They are talking about power + prejudice or institutional racism. THAT is something white people do not experience, but perhaps will someday. Bigotry and prejudice are individual thoughts that anyone can have. However there has not been a black power structure that has systemicatically used every means possible (slavery, jim crow, redlining, racial profiling, etc) to oppress you or any other white person in america.

(37,748 posts)I'd guess a lot of people were chomping at the bit when this hit, ready to feign righteous rage at any bit of absurdity.
I'd also guess more than a few simpletons will attempt to rationalize falling for this shtick with the fictional "but they already say stuff just like this all the time" routine.

(2,749 posts)They can't even tell when they are being punk'd. AND they bring in that freak who says female college students should spend more time looking for a suitable husband than focusing on their studies who spouts even dumber shit than she wrote. Where is the book saying that male college students should spend more time looking for a suitable wife instead of spending time on earning their degree? Or playing sports. Shouldn't it cut both ways? I guess in Sexist Morons land it isn't. Certainly, that was the attitude about a hundred years ago, or less, considering the slack that the married students at Wellesley got in past decades, but seriously, for a woman living in the 21st century to write an entire book about it is proof some people really are stuck in the past and unwilling to evolve.

Hoax or not, the story served its purpose well for the people with an interest in keeping their drooler base all fired up, angry, and feeling persecuted.
