However, I can get the gist of it and they are so much more intense and excited about the WC.

The ESPN bunch are drab and they don't seem into their jobs as much. There are bright spots, but their coverage lacks a lot.
Don't expect FoxSports to be any better at the next WC.

Go American Outlaws! This group deserves a lot of credit. Just because of a love of American soccer, they have started a grass roots movement that has caught on to support US teams. They set up 2charter planes to carry fans to the Ghana/US game. They are behind the "I Believe That We Will Win" chant. I know some are bandwagon, but the core is not. That core keeps growing too.

...will be our younger son's final season of college soccer. He decided to attend the same school as our older son, so we got to wath them play on the same team for 2 seasons, which was a real treat. We have been watching our sons play soccer for nearly 20 years, and I am not at all happy that this time will soon be over.

My theme song, as we drove to travel soccer games, used to be "On The Road Again..."

Go USA!!! That was a heart stopper of a game.

Yes, it's a poor country, but I'm sure that as much as they love futbol, they have a other things to love in their lives.

I doubt many -if anyone- from Ghana would appreciate such condescension from Americans

"Poor poor little country, let them have this". How insulting

Just realistic that their hopes were dashed due to an unequal playing field due to our comparative edge in hiring other players for the event. If based on national team talent alone, they may likely have prevailed.

scores of the World Cup games in the Corp-Media. Sports Illustrated would give the scores but the only articles they would include were the ones about the fights in the soccer stands or the crowds that got crushed, etc.

I am very proud of the American squad. They have an uphill fight ahead of them. Ghana outplayed them but USofA got the win.

and restaurants. There are non-stop programs on the World CUp and more radio and TV coverage than we need.
What shocked hubby tonight was that Chris Hayes didn't start with the fact that the US has just won the game.
In every other country on the planet that is big news and people was caught up with the world cup. Merkel was there this morning cheering on Germany.
The Ghanian VP and Biden were sitting together. The US will never become part of football culture until you reach a final.

On the other hand politicians use global sporting events to sneak through lots of crap while the people are watching sports.

The US team did not appear to have the conditioning to deal with the heat and humidity. They lost one of their players to a hamstring pull which often is brought on by dehydration. I noticed several other players grabbing their hamstrings so this could be an issue particularly in their next match with Portugal which will be played in the steamy rain forest city of Manaus in the Amazon basin.

You also, I suppose, have the right to be a party pooper, but to what end?

There are all kinds of topics here that do not interest me, and there are some topics I really don't like. If there is a celebratory thread about a topic that is fun for those participating and causing no harm to those who are not, I feel no need to go in and be negative or critical.

I don't care for baseball. I would never consider going into a thread where people were enjoying a World Series win and make some sort of derogatory comment. No particular point to that.

The US seemed to be outmatched but all that matters is who wills the ball into the back of the net more times. It is even better because of the recent history between the two teams. I love the World Cup. GO USA!!!
