Lady Parts Justice!

ENOUGH

Women are not faking rape and they don’t have magical powers to deactivate rape sperm. We are not pregnant before we are pregnant, we can’t have an abortion if we are not pregnant, and I think we can all agree, women shouldn’t be forced to carry stillborn babies. Abortions don’t cause mental instability and the HPV vaccine doesn’t make girls mentally retarded. No woman’s boss should be able to demand information from her to decide if her reason for wanting birth control is moral enough to grant permission.

These are all actual laws coming from statehouses all across America, and we are sick of it. Lady Parts Justice is doing something about it. We are calling it “V to Shining V.” Don’t even say it’s not awesome. It’s about time that women took a page from the LGBTQ community and created an annual rocking party with comedians, bands, righteous speakers, and funny videos that celebrate the awesomeness of women while proclaiming it is time to stop fucking with us.

We need you to get your friends together to cause some trouble on the ground in what we are calling Lady Parts Justice Leagues. You are funny and smart so why not get together with your other funny smart and pissed off friends, have some wine and come up with some clever ideas of your own to throw a bum or two out.

V TO SHINING V 1st Annual 50 State Capitol Ladypalooza blowout!

2014 V To Shining V, a national pride day for women. LPJ wants men and women to get together and organize kick-ass block parties in all 50 state capitals with comedy, music and a little dose of what is on the ballot. The goal of V To Shining V 2014 is to be the first annual fall event that serves as the push we all need to step up, get loud, go to the polls in November and toss out politicians who have decided the biggest problems in our home states is what we do with our vaginas.

On Mon Jun 16, 2014, 08:34 PM an alert was sent on the following post:

Just wondering who runs the barbecue at these block parties?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=5108867

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

Pipoman, always anti-woman. Sexist snark on a progressive Democratic board. Women are quite capable of lighting up a BBQ.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Mon Jun 16, 2014, 08:42 PM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Stupid joke. Not hide-worthy.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Are you kidding me? I see more anti-male rhetoric on this site than any other place on the net. This is truly ridiculous and the alerter should be put on notice to stop using the jury system to squelch every piece of speech that doesn't reflect 100% their views about any subject. This is just plain stupid. Leave the post.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Oh come on. The alerter is living up to the stereotype of a dour, humorless feminist.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

Thanks so much for posting that alert here. It sure opens my eyes.

The comments are not really noteworthy except these two...

Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Oh come on. The alerter is living up to the stereotype of a dour, humorless feminist.

So #5 is having their fee fees hurt about the anti-male rhetoric on this site... and #6 "The alerter is living up to the stereotype of a dour, humorless feminist." It is a stereotype and you just made it #6. You own the comment and the stereotyping! Really?!?! GET A GRIP!

My OP is completely non threatening to any male here at DU. So I have no clue why anyone would try to take a dump here.

The Op is a celebration of women, every single one of us. Men are invited in the Op to join us, all the men in our lives that love and respect us. Our Fathers Brothers Sons Uncles Granfathers Friends. It's for us all.

Yet most importantly it is for the Women.

My expectation was no responses at all. After reading the post something about 'men and women should have block parties' the question did come to me. Every bbq I have been to in the last 30 years the grill work was done by the men...actually whomever is having the party usually asks me to grill since I make a living cooking. One of our friends had a party over memorial day. When we got there I was the only man and my wife and I were the only straight people there out of 20 people...yep, they asked me to do the grilling there too..I laugh at these people who proclaim me a sexist...A lot of women in my real life (probably hundreds) would take aggressive umbrage to those assertions..

The divisiveness and all around rudeness is a fairly new thing. Over the last year or so the 'my way or the hiway' horseshit spewed by an aggressive few have contributed to this place sucking more and more. DU is an advertisement for the Democratic party during Presidential election cycles. People who don't follow politics all the time end up here with more frequency during this time. Is this ongoing, negative divisiveness really what Democrats should be promoting? I believe it will ultimately hurt the party. The administration here has, in the past, reigned in excessive minority roughshoding by relieving the primary offenders of their user names...it doesn't take many hands slapped to reign in the nonsense. ..it is time IMHO.

I have never posted a "fuck joke" here or anyplace else. I have been on DU for 8 years. I did post a groaner in this thread (a mole hill) that has been so over discussed (a mountain) it should embarrass even those who think it was misplaced. The groaner I am referring to couldn't be considered a "fuck joke" by anyone with a brain. It has been 272 days since my last hidden post, and I've had maybe 2 total on DU3. How cool is that! I remember you talking about your work with the deaf (correct)? Excellent work my dear.

Thank you for what you do.

an internship at the WA state capitol, we had a group of larger young men (I'm 6'3" as an example) who would wear blue jeans and white dress shirts, and we would escort single women to the clinic. You'd be surprised how much easier it is to walk through "protesters" when you have a couple of giant guys bracketing you.

Not even close to what you're talking about, but I always thought it was funny to see a bunch of people screaming at you until we got closer and they realized just who they were screaming at.

It's time to turn the tides on this issue. We're not Bonobos, tho we seem bent on making that connection as an excuse.

I tell them to think of the typical gun lovin' right-wing racist ASSHOLE they know and ask them if they want that guy to get what he wants.

Cause I have to say your comment is disrespectful. That you find it amusing speaks volumes!

But I find nothing funny about the GOP's war on women. And people who think there is anything funny about their war can go Cheney themselves.

With that said, I'll be first in line to protect them and their choices on what happens to those parts.

I never understood the concept of men telling women what to do with their bodies that's just wrong.

I feel lost in this thread.

Only commenting on the stupendously stupid subthread that ensued my post #5. Post #5. Go back and read the entire OP, from the title to the end. It is a semi light hearted article about an important news story. Now pretend you are looking at it with only 4 posts and no comments on those posts. Maybe it was edgy, I don't think it was. Would it made a difference if my user name were different? Who derailed the thread? Was it blown out of proportion? I had someone in the thread accusing me of telling "fuck jokes" ffs...

Edit LOL! I just reread the op. Did you? Did you read the emphasis on having fun? On COMEDY? Wtf is wrong with those on this thread saying comedy, even weak comedy (which is usually what is stated hereabouts), doesn't belong in this thread, ffs.
