So why would the SCOTUS strike down the health care law?

...upholding the law would be seen as a huge victory for Obama, it appears that if the Republicans do love the mandate more than they hate the President, he's in a win-win situation.

"This is what happens in all the old stories when you sell your soul to the Devil...you're always tricked in some unexpected way such that you don't get the benefit of your bargain..."
...since the President's plan for insuring children includes a mandate and the two other leading Democratic candidates campaigned on a mandate in 2008, and Clinton's plan in the 90s included a mandate, I don't think anyone was "tricked."

Citizens United didn't hurt either. Who needs a few grand from some Insurance Company when you can get millions in PAC money.
You know this isn't hard to figure out. Just follow the pattern. Republicans denounce Contraception, the public is outraged. The Republicans send out their minions to tell the public that the Democrats are attacking contraception.
Unless the point of this thread was to try to convince people that the mandate was not a Republican idea.
You do realize that that point is not debatable right? That is a FACT. Not a "truth" or "opinion", it is a fact that the Heritage Foundation came up with the mandate in response to Clintons health care plan.

...realize that Clinton's health care bill was "dedicated to maintaining the for profit/employer based healthcare system," right?
