MSNBC’s Krystal Ball: ‘Is Hillary Clinton Our Mitt Romney?’

Yikes!

MSNBC host Krystal Ball asked a question today to make Democrats feel really uncomfortable: is Hillary Clinton just the Democratic equivalent of Mitt Romney? After all, she argued, Clinton comes across as very smart and competent, but also remarkably tone-deaf and politically calculating.

Ball took various shots at Clinton’s “unremarkable” book tour, her “dissonant’ comment about being “dead broke,” and her “bland” career at the State Department, remarking that “for the Clintons, everything is carefully poll-tested, focus-grouped, and weather-vaned.”

And so given that aforementioned comment about being dead broke, Ball had to wonder if Clinton’s too similar to the candidate Republicans believed would be able to take down President Obama two years ago.

“Is Hillary Clinton our Mitt Romney? Smart? Sure. Competent? Absolutely. Incredible resumé? Without a doubt. But also, kind of tone-deaf and unrelatable.”

Ball said in 2008, Clinton, like Romney did in 2012, “exuded competence but with no core beliefs” and that’s why she continues to remain unconvinced that Clinton would be the best candidate for the Democrats to run in 2016.

anyone but Romney. Remember their brief honeymoons with Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich sitting atop the polls?

I'm neither for or against Hillary. Too early in the game. So, why is Krystal so early on the criticism?

14. Several weeks ago she did an anti-Hillary segment and has continued in that vain.

Given Krystal's own rather odd and unsuccessful attempt at running for Congress she clearly has a problem with missing some dots when it comes to elective office.

Mitt Romney was stuck at 25% of the republican vote seemingly forever. His opponents were a rotating cast of "anybody-but-Mitt-Romney".

...to which Mitt Romney is vastly more likely to be invited than we are.

They are not the same as the Romneys, but let's mot forget that we are fighting for equality rather than exclusivity.

John Kerry always struck me as more of our side's Mitt Romney, especially with some of the comments he's made in recent years.

I like Krystal Ball. I also support her right to not be jumping on the Hillary bandwagon at this point.

15. Krystal Ball's assessment seems a bit glib, imo.

"unremarkable book tour", "dissonant comment about being 'dead broke', and "bland career at the State Dept."

These are all Ball's own assessments of course and not necessarily those of others. The success of the book tour is arguable but Clinton is generally given high marks for her tenure at the State Dept. and did Ball forget that Hillary was elected twice as a United States Senator and gave Obama a credible run for the 2008 nomination by winning a lot of big state primary elections - Pennsylvania, California, New York, Texas, Ohio, Indiana, among others?

This all makes Clinton "our Mitt Romney" ??? Ball is coming up way short in making the case imo. Aside from the "dead broke" comment - yes that was a mistake that Hillary probably wishes she could take back, I do not see many similarities to the Mittster.

Ms. Ball does not inspire confidence in her ability to make an unbiased assessment of Hillary Clinton's chances, imo. She seems to be starting from an position of just not liking Hillary Clinton or maybe is sold on another candidate (Warren??) and feels the need to bring down the obvious front runner.
