Beautiful composition by Horace Silver:

This is from his 1972 album, "In Pursuit of the 27th Man." Gorgeous.

it still sees heavy rotation on my player, and I'm an aging metalhead and West Coast punk. what an incredible pianist.

One of the great pianists. When I was in my early 20s in the early 1970s we used to play Song For My Father all the time in my jazz combo. It remains one of the essential tunes in any jazz player's repertoire.

He was a great musician. He got started with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers in the late 40s. He had a great run.
