Participants in war have always relied on propaganda to further their causes. This is particularly true in today's age of digital media, which makes spreading information across the globe has become far quicker and easier than before. In a recent bizarre episode in the history of wartime propaganda, the Taliban celebrated the capture of a unique prisoner of war: a dog.
Now nicknamed "DaGarwal," or "the Colonel," the dog turned up on a video released from the province of Laghman in Eastern Afghanistan, in an area called the Alingar Valley. Locals say the region is controlled by a Taliban leader named Abu Zarqawi.
A number of dogs have been killed in combat situations in Afghanistan, while others have been recovered wounded and evacuated if possible. Sources say this dog was captured in late December of 2013 during a night raid east of the capital, Kabul...
Observers believe the dog might be a Belgian shepherd, the breed of choice for many combat situations around the world due to their extraordinary endurance. Typically, the dogs sniff out explosives or drugs and help with scouting. This particular dog was wearing a harness at the time, in which the Taliban found a GPS device, a flashlight and weapons. Taliban spokesmen have said they might consider a trade, if one is offered.

Just stumbled on this today. An earlier version was posted by undeterred with a dead link, but that OP had more details than this version.

I found the video:
I hope this clearly scared dog who was captured in the month of December 2013 will continue to survive and those holding him will trade him.
Is there anything DU animal lovers can do to bring him home?
