Schweitzer: Cantor is "effeminate" and sets off his "gaydar"

http://www.mediaite.com/online/dem-2016-hopeful-schweitzer-cantors-effeminate-mannerisms-set-off-my-gaydar/

It wasn’t the only time Schweitzer was unable to hold his tongue. Last week, I called him on the night Majority Leader Eric Cantor was defeated in his GOP primary. “Don’t hold this against me, but I’m going to blurt it out. How do I say this … men in the South, they are a little effeminate,” he offered when I mentioned the stunning news. When I asked him what he meant, he added, “They just have effeminate mannerisms. If you were just a regular person, you turned on the TV, and you saw Eric Cantor talking, I would say—and I’m fine with gay people, that’s all right—but my gaydar is 60-70 percent. But he’s not, I think, so I don’t know. Again, I couldn’t care less. I’m accepting.”

First he sucks up to Romney, now homophobia (though he was gracious enough to say that he's 'accepting' and 'fine with gay people').

"If you were just a regular person"

Women will also be impressed

"She was the woman who was standing under the streetlight with her dress pulled all the way up over her knees, and now she says, 'I'm a nun,' when it comes to this spying!" he says. Then, he adds, quickly, "I mean, maybe that's the wrong metaphor—but she was all in!"

Which party's nomination is he angling for in 2016?

Hillary Clinton doesn't even need friends.

I don't want a Clinton candidacy. Can we please for the love of something get a liberal primary candidate? Beyond that, can we please impress on Brian Schweitzer the importance of STFU? He's got the worst case of "foot in mouth disease" I've ever seen in this party...it's usually an affliction of the far right like Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock.

who were 'fine with gay people' he'd be a serious threat.

Clinton should face a credible challenge from the left--it would be good for everyone--but Schweitzer ain't credible.

And I find much of Schweitzer's views to be appealing. But I don't disagree with you. We get it wrong.

Regarding DUer's support for Schweitzer, I think it's fascinating, really. I like what he has to say but shit like this is just so frustrating and annoying and bullshit. And he won't take it back, either. He thinks he's OK holding these stupid positions. What may be more damning is that his supporters or previous supporters may not condemn these statements. We'll have to see, at least on this site.

I think that certain populists, because they tell it like it is, or believe they do, think they are able to express other ideas that are abhorrent or at least highly demeaning and uncultured. In his mind, calling Cantor gay is like "unveiling the elitist" even if there's no evidence for it or even if it's just downright mean. And the populist wins the day.

This sort of shit with some populists really irks me, and I can't pin it down, I can't figure it out, to be honest. So many people with decent ideas, either sexists or bigots. Damn Wiener, dude knows his stuff and is a really good talker with leftist ideals, but poof, gone as soon as his underlying tendencies are seen.

Schweitzer is good on a lot of issues from single payer to supporting unions, but then he says something completely asinine like this. It's shameful. And frankly, it allows the center to use it against him. That's really the most frustrating thing to me.

I'm not going to lie, I was high on him in 2008 as a potential Obama running-mate, but let's be honest: he'd be a disaster of a candidate in 2016 because he can't keep his mouth shut.

Americans will say they love politicians who speak their mind. The fact is, they don't. Not when speaking their mind offends half the country. Straight talk doesn't work in national politics. It might play well back home in rural Montana ... but nationally? It'd be a disaster for Democrats.

He's taken an odd angle; first trying to run to the left and now pandering to god knows what. Strike him off the list of people I think are viable candidates at least, because at minimum there must be some concern about his ability to wage a competent campaign.
