I believe all great leaders and their parties employ this tactic. If memory serves Lincoln's closing statement in the Lincoln/Douglas debate was to step out from behind the podium and urinate on a Douglas effigy in full view of the crowd.

This is a perfectly mature, rational, and enlightened thing to do and in no way is meant to provide a childish thrill for the low brow uneducated masses that the GOP desperately needs to keep stupid so they will continue to prop up their "leaders".
