Governor Christie blamed what he called President Obama's failed leadership for global unease and pledged support for Israel on Friday as he appeared before a group of religious conservatives in Washington.

"We are seeing now all across this world that this administration's pulling back of American influence and American ideas around the world is having catastrophic effects," Christie told the Faith and Freedom Coalition on Friday. Christie cited the terrorist uprising in Iraq, violent revolt in Syria, Russian President Vladimir Putin's aggression against Ukraine, and efforts by Iran and North Korea to develop nuclear weapons.

"All of these things are happening, in my opinion, because of a lack of clarity and principled American leadership," Christie said.

Christie also said Israel feels more at risk because it is "no longer convinced America is their unwavering friend. That's wrong, Israel is our friend, and we need to stand up and fight for it."

As he did earlier this year when he spoke at the Conservative Political Action Conference, Christie touted his opposition to abortion, saying he'd been advised by consultants before he ran in 2009 that a candidate with that position had never been elected since the Supreme Court legalized abortion in its Roe v. Wade decision.
