The Immaculate International Missions of Obama

1. Removal of Syrian chemical weapons
2. Capture of hijacked Libyan oil tanker
3. Elimination of Somali piracy
4. Rescue of Sgt. Bergdahl
5. Flawless capture of Bengazhi suspect
6. Elimination of Bin Ladin
7. Elimination of Al Zawahari (pending)
8. Negotiated elimination of Iran nuclear weapons program
9. International agreements for securing of nuclear weapons
10. Libyan air strikes avoided, letting Europe to do something for a change

All, ALL, executed with near perfection; the massive silence of the media on the successes of America and it's incredibly intelligent and thoughtful President is itself a scandal.

Americans have been brainwashed into not being able to celebrate anymore, what a sad nation without celebration.

All of these missions were executed with no or minimal loss of life. Is it only violent successes America seems to celebrate and cherish.

As if these victories were immaculately conceived (hint, hint) through the singularly literal work of Barack Obama. Well, what I'm saying is that while some of these accomplishments are the work of his administration, more than one of them is the work of the international community with the participation of the Obama administration. That is a distinctly different reality from the one portrayed in the OP.

We don't have to respond so violently to the total opposition of the Obama administration by reactionaries that we become reactionaries ourselves.

By the way, the Newsmax jab is just low-brow, base insult. This is a discussion board. Engage me in discussion.

Spain apologizes

http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/07/16/us-usa-security-snowden-latinamerica-idUSBRE96F06020130716

A US official confirms it was in contact with European countries regarding the possibility of Snowden traveling through their airspace:

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/jul/03/edward-snowden-asylum-live

We have been in contact with a range of countries that had a chance of having Snowden land or travel through their country but I am not going to outline what those countries were or when this [contact] happened.

And why did the Austrian authorities even feel the need or desire to inspect the plain of a major head of state?

http://in.reuters.com/article/2013/07/03/usa-security-snowden-jet-bolivia-idINDEE96207B20130703

Austrian Deputy Chancellor Michael Spindelegger said Morales personally denied that Snowden was aboard his jet and agreed to a voluntary inspection.

"Based on this invitation from Bolivia, a colleague boarded the plane, looked at everything and there was no one else on board," Spindelegger told reporters.

All of this suggests that the United States was in communication with the countries who denied Morales' plane permission to travel through their airspace. I want to be careful here, however, in not suggesting that these denials and subsequent inspections were the direct acts of US authorities. I don't believe that argument and I don't believe the argument that the United States "forced down" the aircraft. I think what happened was that these European nations were in communication with US officials, were suspicious of Morales' flight, and I frankly don't blame them, and stupidly decided that the denial of their airspace was the proper course of action.

As far as the pilot recordings, I don't know what to make of it. Either the pilot fabricated a serious problem to gain access to the airport or was instructed to do so possibly even by Morales himself in order to take political advantage of the situation. I will not rule out either possibility or even the possibility of some other underlying truth.

Nonetheless, this still constitutes a major violation of international law regarding the travel and aircraft of heads of state. The problem is that this would not have happened had the United States not been directly discussing with these nations the possibility that Snowden will travel through their territory or airspace. I think that absent such discussions, the flightpath of the aircraft would never have been in question.

Precisely because no official in his or her right mind would ever admit to such a thing. Just as Morales himself would never admit that he took advantage of the wrongful actions of the various European countries for his own political gain. These are potential truths which will never be revealed through direct language because they compromise the moral force of each nation.

The evidence that the US government colluded with European nations to deny suspicious aircraft travel through European airspace comes from indirect statements by US officials that they were in discussion with European countries regarding the issue of Snowden traveling through their territories. There is also evidence that these countries knowingly denied entry into their airspace and that the search by the Austrian authorities constituted a search for Snowden.

Removal of Syrian chemical weapons was a Russian plan, advanced by Vladimir Putin because Syria is a Russian client. Obama's plan was to drop bombs on Syria as punishment for Assad's purported use of those weapons, a move which would have done nothing to remove them because bombing the chemical weapon sites themselves would have been far too dangerous.

That is neither anti-Obama nor pro-Obama, merely a statement of historical fact.

A Major Milestone in Our Effort to Eliminate Syria’s Chemical Weapons Program

October 31 marked a major milestone in our determined effort to get rid of Syria’s chemical weapons program. The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) announced it is now confident that no additional chemical agents or munitions can be produced in Syria. Just a few months ago, Syria had one of the largest chemical weapons stockpiles in the world – including mustard and sarin – and Bashar al-Assad was using these awful weapons to kill his own people. In addition, given the situation on the ground in Syria, this dangerous arsenal was at risk of capture by or transfer into the hands of extremists.

In mid-September, we and Russia agreed to work together to ensure the destruction of the Syrian chemical weapons program in the fastest and safest manner possible. Our joint commitment led to an historic United Nations (UN) Security Council resolution that legally bound Syria to destroy its chemical weapons stockpile under international supervision on a very fast timeline.

Work is being done around the clock to ensure that these deadly weapons are never used again against the Syrian people or against any other citizens in the region or beyond. Less than three months after the ghastly August 21 attack, we have finished the first phase of the elimination process by destroying Syria’s capacity to make chemical weapons. The OPCW’s central role in this ongoing effort was highlighted when it was honored with the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize last month. The people behind the scenes are brave and dedicated, and so we applaud the OPCW and UN personnel who have taken great personal risks to get the job done. They planned and conducted the inspection site visits, supervised the destruction process, and provided security and logistics to the inspectors.

snip

In the end, Syria will be held accountable for the safe and swift elimination of its chemical weapons program and for full compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 2118, OPCW Executive Council decisions, and the Chemical Weapons Convention. But the international community can speed this process, and in so doing ensure that chemical weapons will not threaten the people of Syria or fall into the hands of extremists who could use them to harm Americans or our allies and partners.

Kerry and the President had been working on this for over a year. Funny how an "historical fact" can be so wrong depending on where the information comes from.
