The reason why MSNBC sucks now: Are verbal 'takedowns' no longer allowed?

I noticed something the other day. When I first started watching MSNBC around 2007/ 2008, my appetite for brutal GOP takedowns was filled on a regular basis. Fast forward to 2014 and most of the pundits who offered the most epic teabagger takedowns are now fired: Olbermann, Shuster, Bashir, etc. Nobody on the network seems to do it anymore, even the ones who are good at it (O'Donnell, Matthews, Joy Reid, Thomas Roberts). Did MSNBC execs ban GOP takedowns?

but O'Donnell, is likely going to avoid doing so, given his close brush with death in that head-on taxi cab accident. While there is nothing wrong with going after one's opponents grotesque hypocrisy and misdeeds, I imagine it will not fit with his, more positive, view on life.

that he would even be more ardent in expressing his views in regards to his opponents grotesque hypocrisy. Else, why come back at all?

especially Rachael, that accuracy 9 times out of 10 is a take down of the gop hypocrites.

Lawrence has been off, and his substittue was doing it all the time as I am sure Lawrence will continue to do so in the same way Rachael does.

Alex Wagner and others also do it all the time.

Olberman got got suspended because he violated the rules of his contract by openly saying he donated to Democratic candidates. In addition, Olbermann has clashed with his bosses throughout his career, including ESPN, MSNBC, and Current television.

That being said, the hosts still do an incredible job reporting.

and the great thing is she has facts on her side and the wit to pull off takedowns without really attacking anyone in a personal manner. She seems very thorough in her investigating. It's also one reason I'm sure a republican would never go on her show.

I did get bored with her Christie obsession though and had to change the channel at times since the story didn't interest me that greatly as a non-Jersey resident.

What you liked about the network was precisely the reason I stopped watching it much around the same time. I got so sick of Keith Olbermann's nightly obsession with Bill O'Reilly. I don't need these kinds of overwrought screeds: I knew O'Reilly was an asshole; and it's certainly not helpful to be giving assholes all that attention. (It's in fact counterproductive, imo. If someone is an asshole, ignore them. They go away quicker that way. But don't give them the satisfaction of knowing they are important enough for you to be thinking about night and day. Make them insignificant.)

I want to hear about policy and ideas and actual NEWS, not a bunch of yada yada yada endless chattering about what I already know: that Republicans are poopy-heads.

That's just me, though. Your mileage may vary.

brought them. It's still got moments but by and large it is just ghastly. The return of Lawrence will help but still. Gruesome stuff.

MSNBC hosts verbal take down republicans on the regular. What they don't do is use profanity in doing so, 2 of the 3 you mentioned had.

to get GOP guests on for those kind of ufc style take downs since politically the lines are so much more clearly drawn.

Besides, I don't like when liberal media engages in that type of infotainment. I prefer that only right wing talk play that kind of gutter politics with themselves. Right Wing talk has always been about channeling their inner aggression and hostility. I'd rather liberal talk stay on debating the facts with occasional forays into snark and humor without the temper tantrums and bloviating. It makes us look much more mature.
