It's what we do.

All of our best athletes are playing 3 or 4 other sports.

A great game and that's all that is said?

No wonder I don't look for world cup coverage on DU. Bradley played a very good game. The Portuguese weren't perfect either, including their superstar, until that last, great cross.

That said, the US should have probably won that game 3-0. Both Portugal's goals came off US mistakes and laziness, while both US goals came from hard work against a determined defense. Bradley should have scored easily as well.

Too many people take great joy in shitting on US soccer. As I see it, they were 15 seconds away from being the top of the most feared group in the tournament, and unless Portugal or Ghana win by a shitload of goals, they can even lose the last game and still get through. That's a major accomplishment. Let me also note that I am a fan and follower of the German national team for the last 32 years, so I'm far from a US Men's Team partisan. The people who insist on shitting on this team are acting very stupidly, in my opinion: dislike for dislike's sake, and to annoy others, which is a sign of poor character, in my view.

the first goal was basically an own goal. the US player just laid out what was a perfect pass to Portugal and the goalie seemed to slip and fall. it was an ugly goal. that was the really devastating goal of the game.

what really ticks me off is the arbitrary injury time. why can't FIFA just stop the damn clock like every other sport in the world does when the ball goes out of play. it was like they just wanted to give Portugal all the time in the world to score with no actual measurement of how much time actually deserves to be added.

And for the last 20 years or so, it's announced by the fourth official how much is to be added on (as a minimum). Before that, you had no idea.

This game was to have 5 minutes added on, and the equaliser happened just before those 5 minutes were up. Totally legitimate.

The problem with a stopped clock is that it would be a small step from that to time-outs and commercial interruptions. I hope never to see that.

Pretty dominant World Cup performance by Team USA; best one I've ever seen actually. I really wanted them to keep the pressure up after their second goal. Portugal's back line was utterly fried (watch the replay of our second goal, which happened because a) they were helpless on the right side all day and b) one of their defenders was too tired to get up and was lying in the goal box) and I'm pretty sure we would have gotten a 3rd goal if we had stuck with it.

So we played it safe, which is normal if not killer-instinct worthy, and one of the best players in the world hit a home run ball with time running out. It's ok to go into a crouch but they had no plan for the ball when they possessed it after that second goal and I think it bit them. This game will make them better.
