Those sneaky Canadians are out to kill us.

Poutine is everywhere now. Hell, the Texas Ranger Concessionaire is selling something called Poutine Nachos. One shudders at the thought. There's Greek style Poutine and Poutine with wild boar and the spread of the pernicious fois gras poutine.

Chicago even has poutine week.

So, how many calories in an average plate of poutine?

French Canada’s contribution to scale tipping is a lovely dish called Poutine, pronounced “Poo-teen.” Consisting of a huge plate of French fries topped with a big scoop of cheese curds and made super sloppy with a dollop of gravy, Poutine is considered a side dish usually accompanying a burger and soda. An average serving of Poutine alone contains 1300 calories and 72 grams of fat.

living on the border as I do, but I just can't appreciate it. And as I understand it, it was devised in the late fifties and has never been "lumberjack food". More like after a night of heavy drinking to sop up the booze food.

Ok, and the occasional dollop of mayonnaise. Never thought I'd like that, but I do.
