That horrible, awful Apple store!

I finally decided to upgrade my old iPhone 4 today. I visited the Apple store in a nearby mall...ew. The whole mall experience made my skin crawl. First time I'm stepped foot in a mall in several months.

Anyway, I went through the upgrade process, the salesman showed me all the new features, he explained the different cables, blah blah blah, we transferred my phone number, etc. When we rang up the purchase my debit card was declined...I was $4, yes FOUR dollars over the daily limit. I had used the card during the day to pay some bills and buy some groceries, so my $500 daily limit was maxed.

Now here is what the evil Apple did. My sales rep stepped aside, talked to his manager, then returned and told me not to worry about it. The store would eat the extra $4. Enjoy my new phone.

Dammit, Apple sux. But my new phone is pretty cool.

32gb. With a new case, adapter for the car charger, etc, extra charger and accessories (the new ones don't work with the old cables), I plunked down about $300. But I had already used my debit card for several other purchases. Like, lots. Between paying down credit cards and buying gas/groceries I had spent over a thousand bucks before I even got to the Apple store. The guy showed me the display...they approved all but $4 of my total purchase. i could have just put back the case or the extra charger, but the guy said don't worry. They'd eat the $4. Mighty impressed.

It has a couple of cool things. First talk to text. When you go to text, a little microphone icon comes on. If you press it you can just speak and it turns into a text. Really good for us old guys with big fingers. Also, it will do burst photography. Hold the camera button down and it will shoot 10 frames per second. Great for catching your kid in the air when jumping into the lake.

I had this happen a while back when I had some maintenance done on my car. Quite honestly I don't know what the daily limit is on my debit card but the total was about $2200.00. There was plenty of money in the account to cover it.

The debit kept being declined. I called my credit union and explained the situation. She said she saw there was plenty of money in the account to cover the transaction. She asked me a few security questions including some recent purchases and lifted the daily limit. She said to always feel free to call if I am concerned a purchase may exceed the daily limit.

I am glad there are daily limits...it certainly cuts down on theft and fraud but also glad there is a way around the dreaded limit.

They noted that I'd spent about a thousand dollars in the morning (paying off credit card debt), then there was this supposedly big purchase at the Apple store. $304 is a big purchase? They thought it looked suspicious. Yeah...if I was a crook the first thing I'd do is pay off my victim's credit cards. Anyway, they said it was all cool if I wanted to drive to the branch and withdraw cash, i just couldn't use the debit card until the billing cycle rolled over at midnight.

That configuration of iPhone could have been as little as $299.

Nowhere close. My debit card has a daily withdraw limit of $500. They don't enforce it if I make online payments, but they do for over the counter retail purchases. I had already spent most of it before I bought the new phone. Actually, about a thousand dollars, but those transactions went through. I think it's funny that it was just the extra $4 at the Apple store that stopped the transaction. I went to the CU afterwards, no problem getting cash. They apologized, and said I just can't use the debit card until after the accounting cycle refreshes at midnight.

The point is, the Apple store told me not to worry about the extra $4, that they'd eat it. Enjoy your new phone. What was the last retailer that did that for you?

White man's problems.

But you should have seen my old phone! Broken glass, home button didn't work, one speaker was out, slow as dog doo. But I got three years out of it. I'm not complaining...just giving some props to the Apple store. See if Walmart will take $4 off your tab if your debit card isn't approved.

I'd dropped mine in my pool, dove and got it, opened up the case and kept it in rice to dry it out.

After a couple weeks the screen started to lift up, a problem with this model.

Went in for my appt. at the Genius Bar, they replaced the phone with new identical 64GB unit.

Color me delighted.

I bought in new, and was in the Apple store one day while my wife was buying her iPad. While I waited I asked the sales guy about my the sticking "Home" button on my phone. They took it into the back room and five minutes later came out and said that, yeah, while it worked, it didn't work as it should. I had literally one day left on my warranty. They gave me a brand new phone. That is the one I'm retiring today. Bruised, broken, battered, but it still functions. But dayam, this iPhone 5 is like lightning by comparison. Now they're telling me I shoulda got the iPhone 6.

One was for some keys that didn't work on the touchscreen, the other was a problem overheating while charging.

They also replaced the keyboard on a black macbook way past warranty, and the battery.

All this service is worth the price one pays for their product and their service.
