(34,108 posts)But if you like this thread that much, kudos.
A crap conservative congress can back Obama and Clinton into dull presidencies. A liberal congress can shove the EPA down Richard Nixon's throat. I care less about the next president then about fixing Congress. I am sick of hearing from "Republicans" that Washington is broken so they need to take back Washington. The universal response should be "Dude, your dumb ass voting record is what broke it. Take it back? You guys have it. If your not happy don't look at us liberals." Any Democrat worried about Hillary in 2016 and ignoring 2014 is missing how important 2014 is to MY LIFE RIGHT F* NOW and my life to come post Obama Administration. Make a congress that forces liberal bills on Obama's desk and see how much more interesting the Candidates for 2016 become. Two more years of what we got now and who really gives a shit what parrot sits on the Captains shoulders in 2016.

(45,312 posts)he's looking at the Obama model of campaigning. He's putting together a ground game that might surprise the inevitable candidates.
We need to give him a Democratic Congress in 2014 to work with.

(9,213 posts)I figured it out awhile back and this is based on memory....and following a two-term President, the only time the incumbent party has won has been with the VP. Every other time they have lost.

(146,116 posts)It looks like Hillary's probably going to run, but who knows? Once the 2014 election is over, candidates will start declaring for the office. Once that happens, we'll quickly learn who's gaining traction and who is not. Until then, though:
Lex

(146,116 posts)I'm not going to argue pros and cons of candidates until they announce. I'll leave that to others, and then join in after November.

would i dearly love warren to be president? absotively, posilutely, yes! but pining for kucinich got me nowhere, either.
hillary won't be my ideal president, but she's far better than anything the republicans will put up, and she's by far our best chance to win the general.
at this point, anyway.
warren needs more time in the senate anyway. she can do some good there, and the obscurity-to-one-term-senator-to-presidency route is a rarity. obama pulled it off, an exceptional politician during exceptional times. warren is awesome, but we won't have a back-to-back repeat of this.
Lex
(34,108 posts)but no threads about others who might be in contention. That's one of the reasons I was wondering about the topic.

(51,920 posts)worked so well for her last time
actually, in truth, obama was the only sort of candidate who could realistically beat the inevitability strategy. someone young with huge potential and not well known on the national stage, willing to take perhaps a long-shot because it would position himself well for a subsequent run. more seasoned politicians know to just get out of the way of that steamroller because there isn't much upside for them in losing.
warren has a bit of that going for her, but i just don't see her as being willing to take time away from her pet issues to position herself for a possible serious run in 8 years. that's a big difference between her and obama; obama very clearly had presidential ambition and potential written all over him from the get-go; warren has wonk written all over her. warren wants to make a difference, especially fighting for consumer protections, and she's in a very good place to make a difference where she is. obama's never viewed his senate tenure as anything other than a stepping-stone.
