Multi-millionare Elizabeth Warren made a statement about wealth in 2012, much like Hillary Clinton

“I realize there are some wealthy individuals – I’m not one of them, but some wealthy individuals who have a lot of stock portfolios” she told MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell.

Much like Hillary, Warren was trying to express differences in the way she managed her wealth and her comment ended up being misunderstood to mean that she said she wasn't wealthy.

Buzz feed interpreted her comments that way and wrote about it here:

Warren's folks responded:

Warren spokesman Kyle Sullivan emails, “Elizabeth was making the point that, unlike many members of Congress, she does not have a broad portfolio of stocks in individual companies. If elected, she’ll get rid of the one stock she does own.”

Warren’s stock, an aide says, is all in mutual funds, with the exception of holdings in IBM which she has had for decades.

. . . looks like Hillary isn't the only potential millionaire candidate faltering when trying to draw contrasts between their own wealth and the choices other wealthy people make.

I'd hope that by the time she's been in politics as long as Hillary, she'll know better than to say such things again.

. . . same as Hillary.

I'm not blaming Hillary or Sen Warren most for that, I blame folks who've distorted their comments for petty political purposes.

By now, every politician should know it's going to happen unless you're very careful about what you say.

. . . calling it a 'gaffe' suggests that they actually meant to exclude or dismiss their own wealth.

What's happening right now to Hillary is nothing less than a smear. I can clearly see what both of them were saying. It's a distortion of language to suggest they meant otherwise.

Instead of all of the handwringing and crocodile tears over her comment, maybe folks could spend bother to defend against such obvious distortions. But, as you have seen, there are people who care nothing about the truth who will take it as far as folks allow them.

We used to defend our Democrats against lies and distortions - in the case of Hillary, there's a uncharacteristic zeal from many of her opponents (a lot from folks here on the left, as well) to perpetuate the lie and blame Clinton for the deliberate distortion.

Some people do not like Hillary's policies. Doesn't matter what Warren says. Only matters what Hillary DOES.
And I am betting that there is nothing Warren or any other liberal can say or do that is so offensive or tone deaf that it will make people who do not like Hillary's policies into Hillary supporters.
Hold their nose and vote, yeah, but not enthusiastic supporters.

Warren could parade around in diamonds and pearls and I would still consider the TPP and other sekrit treaties big pieces of offal and could not support the politicians who craft and enthuse over them.

If you take what she said literally, at face value, she's not lying, either. This is such a non-story.

bulk of their net worth after he left the presidency. Right now Elizabeth Warren net worth is $12 million before she has run for the presidency. At the time Clinton was president the salary was $200,000, hardly rich. They had debts of $12 million, they made big buck writing books and their speaking engagements. If you take his salary for those years and the debt and paid all of the salary towards their debt they would still owe $10 million. As Hillary said, "broke". Now let's get past this crap and work towards electing Democrats, this is how we can start doing better as the 90%. We don't need to do FOX and RW work.

But that's just more Clinton BS like the meaning of "is" or "I did not have sex with that woman".

They had the promise of tons of money coming in and the law firms to which they owed the money were not going to put them in the poorhouse because they didn't have the money in their pocket.

It's disingenuous to make a statement like this and it insults the intelligence of those of us who hear it.

I really have no knowledge of her personal wealth but in any event that was a fairly innocuous comment, especially when compared to "we were dead broke when we left the white house".
