It looks pretty grim for McDaniel. I think he wanted to retire, anyhow.
Recommended, and looking forward to updates and discussion.
McDaniel is the Bagger. Cochran is the incumbent. This is shaping up to come out exactly opposite of what the pundits have been pushing.
If Cochran wins, he'll owe his seat to African Americans who came out to vote against McDaniel.
I shouldn't talk on the phone while DUing!

(15,429 posts)Jones has yet to report a single vote and Cochran's lead is just over 4000 votes.
This could go down to the wire and McDaniel can still easily pull it out.

(15,951 posts)the democratic candidate a chance to win?
The last real democratic challenger Cochran had was William Winter who was just finishing his very popular term as governor in the 80's and Cochran won 61% of the vote.
There wasn't a democratic primary, and the one person up for election has essentially said he's not running a campaign against Cochran.

(32,021 posts)according to the interactive clarion ledger map. McDaniel had a BIG advantage in his home county (Jones) and in the counties near Memphis and New Orleans. But Cochran won where the major cities (like Jackson and Biloxi) are as well as where the major universities (Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi State in Starkville) are.

I am dismissing the Tom Cotton internals which put him up by 7-10%.
