I'd copy the image and post it but my connection is too slow right now.

Actually I'd say the first guy was Hispanic.

(62,276 posts)The person in the middle is not white, sorry. The lips in all of those caricatures are large, it's highly racist imagery. Fucking "blackface" to the core.

(37,305 posts)If you look up cleft chins in google images they are all white.
Oh I see one black guy...maybe two. But vast majority are white.
joshcryer
(62,276 posts)Particularly when it's not in Google's interest to provide racist imagery. Type "hoodie male" and behold all the white people. I suspect that these results are tailored. In particular I think that outside of the baby images for your search your comment could equally apply to "cleft chins are more commonly associated with women." I do not think the person depicted is a woman!

(37,305 posts)How it turned into such a controversial thing...who knows. Its always the bad actors that spoil things.
I wonder what the ass who was stealing from Zimmerman's community thinks. I hope he feels guilty that Trayvon was mistaken for him and paid the ultimate price. Martin wasn't shot because he was black..he was shot because he was mistaken for the black guy that was robbing people.

Hispanics: guns
Whites: baseball bats
Blacks: knives

(12,530 posts)And now you're trying to make white guys out of a clearly, CLEARLY racist poster put out by the same police department that, for all the world, looks to be involved in the coverup of a murder. What gives, dkf?

(12,530 posts)But you called me and a lot of other people racists. And I don't like that, because it's not true. The inability to see any problems with your side of any given story should probably give you pause and make you consider some things, but it won't. So I alerted on your post. And I do hope it's removed, forthwith.

(39,961 posts)The very first picture is in color, and it's a white guy with blonde hair aiming a shotgun at a woman in a bank, and the bank manager is a black man who is sitting at a desk calling police on the phone.
I get what you are saying from this one particular picture, but taken in context of the entire pamphlet, with the main picture being as I described above, it's a bit of a leap to claim this is racist.
Frankly, there is enough room for debate as to what race any of these cartoon characters are without them being in color, but there is no debate about the one on the front page of the pamphlet.

(5,032 posts)Blacks = made to look menacing even though there is not crime in progress.
In other words, "Whites are only suspicious the moment they start committing a crime. Blacks can be suspicious just hanging around in groups of three."
Aerows
(39,961 posts)A black man is the bank manager. Bank managers tend to be involved in "high pay off crimes" in action LOL!
I do get what you are saying, but I think there is a point where you can take things so far out of context that it will support anything you argue.

(163,986 posts)I posted it with the accompanying text, noted it was on P. 2 and provided a link to the original document. To be more complete, I'd have to fax you the pages. lol
If anything is out of context it's 3 "ethnic" or non-white, disreputable looking characters holding weapons in a flyer about robbery. What is the message of that cartoon?
Aerows
(39,961 posts)If you'll note, I even clipped the picture on the front of it, so I assure you, I did read it.
The only thing that would correct it would likely be to get rid of the cartoons altogether except for the one on the front page, since it's just going to cause controversy.
I'm not purposefully being obtuse, EF, and usually I agree with you. In this case, though, I think in some ways people are seeing what they want to see because of the justifiable anger at the Sanford Police Department. In any case, however, it would probably be a good PR move for them to get rid of the drawings and just leave the one on the front page.
EFerrari
(163,986 posts)It has nothing to do with robbery.
It is blatantly racist and would be in any context.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)Because you have people with a bat, a gun and a knife. The image on the initial page looks frightening and violent, too, and it's a blonde man with a gun.
If you draw people with guns and knives, it looks violent, but that doesn't mean that the drawing on the second page was exclusively of minorities, anymore than the drawing on the front page means that all white people tote shotguns and rob banks. The guy with the bat looks like a white guy to me.
*MOST* of the bank robberies around here have been committed by white men, and we've had several. Am I to assume as someone else suggested that it's less violent to put a gun to someone's head in a bank than it is to put a gun to someone's head in a convenience store?
