MORRIS, Ill. (AP) — Officials in Grundy County say a 3-year-old boy has drowned in a swimming pool in Morris.

Grundy County Coroner John Callahan says Liam Vaughn died Sunday afternoon after he was found in an above-ground pool. The (Joliet) Herald-News reports that preliminary reports indicate the boy had taken off his arm floats to eat. The coroner's office says the boy apparently jumped back into the pool without the floats.

And it's really more of cosmological point than a joke. People thank Jesus for all sorts of things for which Jesus (I'm sure) is not taking credit.

Jesus had nothing to do with either of them. What's the message to the parent of the little boy? Sorry, Jesus didn't give a shit about your kid? He was too busy determining the outcome of last World Cup match? What?

Your kid didn't drown. Be happy, but don't go around telling people the Jesus personally dove into the pool to drag her to safety. It's stupid.

Edit: Just so we're clear, I'm including a joke so we all know the difference: An octopus walks into a bar and sees a band playing in the corner, composed of an Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman. The octopus walks up and says “I’m the best musician in the world. I can play any instrument you like”. So the English guy goes “All right then. Play this” and hands him a guitar. And, I think that IF an afterlife exists, I think that when we "cross over" we initially experience what we believed in life.

If there is a higher power, I think it will manifest itself to us in the form we expect it to take.
And, I would expect this to be especially true for children.
I'm sure a benevolent being would make such a crossing as comfortable for a young child as possible.
