State Rep. Luis Garcia quit his race for Congress and may leave the Democratic Party over what he said was a betrayal by top party officials.
In a sign of Democratic struggles in Floridas biggest county, Republican U.S. Rep. David Riveras main opponent dropped out, leaving no clear replacement to challenge the ethics-hobbled incumbent.
State Rep. Luis Garcia, who had struggled to raise money and accused top Democratic leaders of double-crossing him, left the congressional race for a Miami-Dade County commission bid at the urging of a top financier.
Garcia said hes planning to leave the Democratic Party following a dispute with Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Steve Israel, who both recruited former Miami-Dade Mayor Alex Penelas to jump into the race. (63 posts)Indeed it seems good news that we may rid of this Garcia character. If nothing else he is guilty of stupidity. His staff didn't run away for no reason. He will probably prosper in the republican party, seems like a good fit.

(23,558 posts)8:19 AM PT: FL-26: I really feel like this is all for the better: State Rep. Luis Garcia, who in recent months had proven himself to be the absolute worst Democratic House recruit we've seen in quite some time, finally pulled the plug on his campaign against GOP freshman David Rivera. Given his constant, open feuding with the DCCC (which he said stood for "double-crossers, connivers and cowards" and the fact that his top staffers all left, this comes as no surprise. Instead, he'll run for a seat on the Miami-Dade County Commission, something he said he might do just the other day.

(23,558 posts)So I had to do the google search when I saw your thread. First thing I saw was that Garcia was born in Cuba and running for office in Florida. That's a big heads up that he could be very conservative.
