(41,832 posts)She was 40 years old in 1989. So she was probably a Republican into the 1990s.
I have no problem with that unless someone brings up the bs argument that Hillary was a Goldwater girl when she was in high school long before she could even vote ( at age 21)

(23,946 posts)is asking for too much.
If I want to engage with trolls and those not understanding of the Animal Farm like practise of Fox I could go to Huff Post.
I love DU because trolls are rapidly identified and removed, I do not want unaware Fox watchers in any stage of the Fox programming process.

(58,362 posts)They more than any other televised network lead the fight, in overall dumbing down of the American People on a wide array of issues, waging war and global warming to name just a couple.
In regards to the growing catastrophe of global warming too much is at stake to allow me the comfort of pity.
You may not see them as enemies, but if the U.S. specifically and humanity in general doesn't alter its behavior fast enough, millions to hundreds of millions of people will die or have their lives devastated from the results of our inaction.
To me there is no greater enemy than ignorance and inaction on such a critical issue.

(5,739 posts)I thought a cult was a religious organization that entraps people in a byzantine sets of rules and then attempts to extract as much money as possible for them.
Apparently, it just means any organization that has objectives and principles you dislike.
This is what I mean. This is absolutely empty rhetoric meant to pander exclusively to the already converted. If someone was unconvinced and your argument was "THE NRA IS A CULT" they'd just come out of it think you're crazy.

(23,946 posts)cult noun, often attributive \ˈkəlt\
: a small religious group that is not part of a larger and more accepted religion and that has beliefs regarded by many people as extreme or dangerous
: a situation in which people admire and care about something or someone very much or too much
: a small group of very devoted supporters or fans

(5,739 posts)This is why I find this kind of amusing and sad at the same time. You've seem to have single highhandedly determined that DU has absolutely nothing more to gain from discussion on this issue. If people disagree with you they need to just get out and they are probably just dangerous cultists anyways.

(45,319 posts)Not exactly raging fury at the NRA now is it? I'm far more opposed to guns than she is.
And your response is nonsense. Right wing violence has existed forever in the US, it was not the result of some cable commentary channel watched by a tiny group of elderly wingers. It is a result of Republican philosophy and the rhetoric of elected officials. FoxNews itself is a result of those same things.
When I read crap that pumps up the power of FoxNews, I assume the poster supports FoxNews or vice versa. Just fyi.
Fred Sanders
(23,946 posts)The right to bear arms is not the issue, the issue is the right to foment violence for the sake of politics, which is what Fox does, with the aid and abetting of the NRA.

Hate is a mighty risky thing. People think they control it. But it always contaminates the vessel which contains it. And it too often takes control over people's lives.
There are organizations and individuals -- Fox News and the head of the NRA, for example -- who are attempting to stir up dangerous impulses, such as hate and phobia. We should oppose their agenda. But not by adding to the amount of hatred and fear that contaminate our society.

(53,032 posts)I dislike both of those organizatons, particularly the NRA. But insisting if people don't hate with a burning passion, there is something wrong with them is destructive. Any political action requires an ability to work across ideological differences. Hate makes that impossible.

Their influence while still not getting that is damaging to the site.
Is it wrong to hate such a source or site, the antithesis of this site?
LWolf
(46,179 posts)I think that hate is self-destructive and makes a problem worse, not better.
I'd rather engage in more productive opposition. Opposition to be sure, though. In the case of FOX news, first of all, I don't give them air time, and I don't empower them by spending much time even talking about them. I DO get news from better sources, and share better sources with others.
Or, instead of just hating, start collecting examples of bad journalism to share with anyone who wants to talk about FOX. Providing evidence for why they aren't credible when it counts. Of course, that would require actually tuning in, so I haven't gone that far.
