So Many Reality Shows Are Just Plain Abusive.

The reality show mania of the producers are a bit over the top. So many of these shows just seem abusive to the contestants. It is amazing what contestants put up with for their 15 minutes of fame. Reality shows have their place, but fact that they are cheaper to produce has resulted in too many of them. And some of the formats are plain ridiculous and even dangerous. I hope this craze come to an end sometime. Or at least reality shows are more well thought out and less mean to contestants.

Too bad we cannot get better entertainment.

But it seemed like the lowest common denominator in the House always seemed to win (the "Louse of the House&quot . I don't think most people know these things are more scripted than "reality," and that they're a mirror of the sickness of society. I no longer give them or their sponsors my time.

Hell's Kitchen, Masterchief, Big Brother, Amazing Race, Survivor, The Voice (just auditions), American Idol (occasionally but before all the time). They are really good shows. I don't see any abuse on these shows at all.

And its two spin-offs. And a buncha Food Network. Otherwise, MSNBC and Stewart/Colbert. Husband likes those, Chopped, and the Science Channel.

I want information on how to cook any why it's done that way. Despite his politics, I like Alton Brown, but he's not making new informational cooking shows these days, just hosting competitive crap shows.

I do watch a lot of MSNBC. I enjoy Stewart & Colbert but by the time their shows are on I'm not in the mood for politics most nights. I like some on the Science Channel but it's started to be invaded by garbage.

For instance, I tried to watch Outrageous Acts of Science (which my husband loves) tonight, but they were showing some guy puking. Bad enough to have that one, but they showed the same clip repetitively. No, thanks - I think they've lost me as a viewer.

There are a few shows on Food Network I like a lot - LOVE Ina Garten's "Barefoot Contessa" and the Sandwich King, but they're not on often enough. And they do show you how to cook, especially in hers. I like "Chopped" and "Restaurant Impossible" and that "Restaurant Stakeout" guy. I LOVED the original "Iron Chef" with the utterly alluring Chairman Kaga!

But yeah, the constant competitions get tiresome. And even MORE tiresome - that Guy Fieri. ENOUGH ALREADY!!!! A little of him goes a LOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGG way. A VERY little of him. And his voice-over delivery - the singsong "dah-DAHAA, dah-DAHAA, dah-DAHAA, day-DAHAA" - utterly nauseating! I turn him off as soon as he comes on.

All they show during prime time are the competitions. During the day they show the old stuff that was worth watching - but there are only so many times I can watch them cook the same dish!

The very early Guy Fieri show were OK but once he made it big he got annoying. And frankly I consider him just a cook, not a chef.

Quiet, elegant, tasteful, and even the incidental music is great. She's not some "trendoid" with 192 affectations - I mean, how many chain bracelets and thumb rings can you wear? How many bleach jobs and spikes on your hair can you do - and how many times can you yell about something being "OFF the HOOK!" before it becomes really tiresome? I wrote in and complained - and suggested that, since they seemed so intent on jamming as much Guy Fieri down our throats, why didn't they just rename the whole freakin' network after him? Some of 'em in the executive suites must think he's the Second Coming or something. But he makes me feel like grabbing the remote and finding something else, or just turning it off altogether.

This was back when the reality shows hadn't gone apeshit quite yet. I moved overseas and never watched them again. There are plenty of shows I watch on a regular basis and none of them are reality shows.

(I do on a very rare occasion when it is on Korean TV watch Hell's Kitchen, but very rare. Shows in English don't come on a consist basis and the times change a lot where a show may only be one two days a week and it is one or two seasons old).

The definition of reality has been perverted to include being "thrown" into the wilderness naked and "surviving". I was much happier with reality was a true documentary or something like Modern Marvels.
