Orrin Hatch says Obama will 'throw the Mormon Church' at Mittens

(Obama has more class than that, and, btw Orrin where are you on all your nut cases attacking President Obama on religious issues?--that is a fact while you're just speculating on what Obama will do).

FARMINGTON, Utah -- Sen. Orrin Hatch predicted President Obama's campaign team would use Mitt Romney's Mormon faith against him in the general election.

Speaking to a group of GOP delegates at a campaign stop Tuesday, the six-term Republican incumbent warned, "You watch, they're going to throw the Mormon church at him like you can't believe."

Asked to elaborate in an interview later, Hatch fingered campaign adviser David Axelrod and White House aide David Plouffe as the masterminds who would insert the issue into the campaign.

"Let me tell you something. The Obama people have some of the best political consultants in the country and they don't get there because they're always wonderful people. They're very tough. I have respect for them. They're very tough. I've met with Axelrod, he's the best there is in the business. Plouffe, you've got to say he's one of the best. And there is nothing they won't do," Hatch asserted.

even though he isn't even a Muslim (and wouldn't/shouldn't matter even if he is). Hell, they've thrown everything AND the kitchen sink at him. That being said, Obama is too classy to go there and I'd be very disappointed in him if he did. I don't know why, however, him or the Dems would be wanting to go there. In fact, the only people whom seem to attack other people's religions (or lack thereof) seem to be...........Republicans!

That would be just so dastardly and underhanded, like holding a candidate responsible for something his pastor once said during a sermon. Something uprooted from its context*, shorn of everything except the desired sound bite, and used as a cudgel over and over again against that candidate.

How very distressing, Mr. Hatch. Shall I fetch your fainting couch?

*By the way, the context of Jeremiah Wright's "God damn America!" sermon was in the context of the United States' shameful history of enslaving certain people, preached to the present day descendants and those who look like them who continue to feel the effects of that enslavement to the present. Time constraints, naturally, keep the popular media from explaining this, because it's just tooooo complicated to get at all the nuance and subtlety of why a black preacher, talking to a black congregation, might think the history of slavery in this country was damnable.

I think the Obama campaign will completely leave that alone. The ConservaWacko Party will handle that just fine. They already hate Romney, and will talk up his Mormonism to demonstrate that.

I think there needs to be a through airing of Mormon theology, people cringe at Scientology - but Mormonism is 10x weirder and more contrived than that. But I think most people chalk it up as just another weird protestant sect.

The Mormon Church is one of the most psychotic and scary religious groups around - we saw the extent of the damage they can do here in California with the money they poured into passing Prop 8. I'm glad these bigots are going to be put on the spotlight - let the world see what they really are and what they stand for. America's religious institutions want to take us back to the dark ages with this birth control bullshit nonsense - and if they're put in that spotlight because of Romney - good, fuck 'em.

I believe that President Obama will refuse to make RMoney's faith ann issue as well.

However, Mittens is most vulnerable to the Christian Taliban wing of his own party.

Our side can be above this.

NOT the Dems. The sheer hypocrisy of bellyaching about an offense that has not even happened yet, while being an anchor of a party that has spent half a decade now publicly and loudly trashing the President's religious life is wilting. Fully expected, of course, but still wilting.
