After I get off work, my daughter and I are going to Hobby lobby

We are going to take two carts, walk around the store and put every small item we can fit into them randomly and then whoops, forgot my wallet I'm leaving.

It's childish, it's not a nice thing to do, but I don't care.

Conservatives can whip up people on a religious issue and then run amok on everything else. It is slight of hand, look over here (while we rob you blind over there). This is why religion should not be allowed anywhere near government.

I was talking about the Supreme Court ruling with a good friend who is reasonably educated. She saw nothing wrong with the ruling.

I don't think that religion was really the issue in the court case. I think that is was just another Corporation using the excuse of religion to stick it to the White House. Corporations have no interest in anybody telling them how to run their business.

Retailers regularly violate overtime law. They use "comp time" to avoid >40 hour weeks, and they utterly ignore that >8 hours in one day is overtime.

Employees know they get fired if they complain. And the benefit of complaining isn't much - if they work an extra hour, turning that hour into time-and-a-half is not much money.

However, I think it still ends up a net positive.

I have little doubt that hobby lobby practices that type of management, same as you. But Im sure they do that regardless of whether the Op and others do things like they described, they still do exactly the type of forced off the clock work you describe. If you assume that they are already forced into extra work, theres not really more to be wrung out of them, which means more work takes more people.

This is the same reason that I always go to a checker rather than use a Ucheck. Until we straighten out our society to account for the fact that there is far less work that needs done than hours available by workers, people need those unnecessary jobs like individual checkers to make due.

I've only stopped in their store twice, and all I bought was some artificial flowers that were on sale 75% off. Teh second time I didn't buy anything. Their prices aren't great and neither is their merchandise. I don't see any reason anyone would shop there unless there is no other crat shop in their area, and even then, shopping online is not only easier, but cheaper too. If you sign up with the many craft sites, they will send you emails with the specials and many times free shipping too.

This exposure is seriously needed since the public probably does not even know this about Hobby Lobby.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The owners of Hobby Lobby do not appear to have any problem with profiting from the companies that manufacture the very products that so grievously offend their religious principles.

The following is a summation of the companies manufacturing these products that are held by the Hobby Lobby employee retirement plan, as set forth by Ms. Redden’s remarkable reporting:

These companies include Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, which makes Plan B and ParaGard, a copper IUD, and Actavis ACT +0.39%, which makes a generic version of Plan B and distributes Ella. Other holdings in the mutual funds selected by Hobby Lobby include Pfizer PFE +0.2%, the maker of Cytotec and Prostin E2, which are used to induce abortions; Bayer , which manufactures the hormonal IUDs Skyla and Mirena; AstraZeneca AZN +0.53%, which has an Indian subsidiary that manufactures Prostodin, Cerviprime, and Partocin, three drugs commonly used in abortions; and Forest Laboratories, which makes Cervidil, a drug used to induce abortions. Several funds in the Hobby Lobby retirement plan also invested in Aetna AET -0.37% and Humana, two health insurance companies that cover surgical abortions, abortion drugs, and emergency contraception in many of the health care policies they sell.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Get creative. This should be done at every HL across the Country.

Their manager may not give a flying fuck if they have to do extra work. If they don't get all their work done on time, they get penalized or fired. I used to work in retail, I know how it is. Even IF they get all that extra work done on top of their usual workload, you've now penalized some low level grunts making minimum wage or barely above it.

I understand the outrage, but direct the outrage through boycotts and letters to the CEO. Don't penalize the low level employees, who probably need the job.

Plain and simple.

I can't believe you would take these actions, have some respect for others.

Try it, it's nice.

If you aren't happy with a companies decision there are tons of things you can do but essentially messing with the lowest people on the totem pole should not be one of them.

I also considered taking some cheap .99 cent posters in and having them "framed", then just never picking them up.

I have registered voters, walked neighborhoods, drove people to the polls, etc for the last 7 elections in my very red state. If I want to do something childish and petty to make myself feel better and to possibly get some overtime for their workers, then so be it.

Your "direct action" won't bother HL owners at all. It will be one of those just-above-minimum-wage workers restocking all those items. I remember what a pain in the ass it was to restock a full cart left by someone who really did forget their wallet.

Pissed at Hobby Lobby? Send your message directly to the top and refrain from using rank and file workers as unwitting props in your protest.

Only money and corporations have a voice now.

I won't do that. In retrospect, it does sound like a childish thing to do. But let's all remember the words of these great Americans.....

D-Day: War’s over, man. Wormer dropped the big one.
Bluto: Over? Did you say “over”? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Otter: Germans?
Boon: Forget it, he’s rolling.
Bluto: And it ain’t over now. ‘Cause when the goin’ gets tough…
[thinks hard]
Bluto: the tough get goin’! Who’s with me? Let’s go!
[runs out, alone; then returns]
Bluto: What the fuck happened to the Delta I used to know? Where’s the spirit? Where’s the guts, huh? This could be the greatest night of our lives, but you’re gonna let it be the worst. “Ooh, we’re afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble.” Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I’m not gonna take this. Wormer, he’s a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer…
Otter: Dead! Bluto’s right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody’s part.
Bluto: We’re just the guys to do it.
D-Day: Let’s do it.
Bluto: Let’s do it!

I agree this isn't the right thing to do, and I have relented (thanks to all for gently reminding me that we as progressives and liberals are better than that), but it's so frustrating when I've spent 26 years as a single dad of 2 girls telling them that they are entitled to feel equal, safe and not to accept being treated like less.

I think pointing out all the chinese junk is best because it corners 'uber-patriotic' Christians into deciding between their patriotism and their anti-choice positions.

going to HL and when it comes time to check out tell them that your Christian religion requires diligence in making sure that other Christians are tithing, so you are going to with hold 10% of the sales amount and you will tithe for them.
or,

you beat the store manager if he is wearing two types of cloth at the same time. Leviticus 19:19

or ask someone at HL there who wears glasses, if they go to church, them remind them that they are forbidden to go to church because they wear glasses - Lev 21:20 states that you may not approach the altar of God if you have a defect in my sight.

or ask any of the women there if they are on the periods, for Lev 15:19-24 forbids contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness.

or if there is a young girl there ask how much her father wants for her, as you need a slave, as sanctioned in Exodus 21 ---

if any male there has a short hair, then that is expressly forbidden by Lev 19:27 and you may beat them.
and here are 76 things forbidden in Leviticus - have fun---
