ASU police throw Black professor to the ground, arrest her for jaywalking

Shocking dashcam footage shows the moment a female Arizona State University professor was slammed to the ground by campus police — for jaywalking.

Ersula Ore was detained in May after cops spotted her wandering down the middle of a Tempe street to avoid construction works.

She tried to explain the reason why she was in the center of the road. But, before she could finish, she was asked for her ID.

The video, obtained by 3TV, shows the English professor protesting about the "disrespectful" way she was being spoken to — and refusing to show her card.

Replying that she had "no problem abiding by the law," she then says: "But all I'm asking, do you have to speak to me in such a disrespectful manner?"

- what happened to advising a person that they need to be careful. Respect goes both ways.

Did it really need to get to this? Or, I hate to say it, was it a case of a lone black woman being targeted?

Ore's lawyer Alane Robytold Jezebel:

I think as far as liability goes it would be in their best interest to hope that it's not a case of racial profiling. That being said, I have several witnesses that were there that evening that were also crossing the street, and none of them happened to be black and none of them happened to be women. One of them called 911.

besides his apparent disrespect for this woman, is his threat to inflict bodily harm on her unless she complied with his orders.

"...Put your hands behind your back right now. I'm going to slam you on this car. Put your hand behind your back ..."

He's acting as judge and jury. He's threatening to slam her on the car unless she complies. A policeman simply isn't allowed to threaten bodily harm to coerce cooperation. He's only entitled to do what's necessary to place her in custody and he can't punish someone. He might as well have said he was going to extinguish a cigarette on her face unless she complied; same thing. This man should resign.

All she has to do is identify herself, which she could be heard doing. This fascist pig should be thrown into the pacific ocean far away from the country and the freedoms he hates.
