(53,235 posts)to share resources without killing each other. Sharing erases poverty. Without war, we could have civilization.
People could still find reasons to hate each other, but because the government-sanctioned violence would cease and not be condoned, violence in general would not be condoned and would decrease.
There might be more shouting in the world, however. I could live with that.

(10,952 posts)Without conflict you don't have war and thus have no need for military weapons (or a 2nd Amendment right to own guns). Without conflict you don't need multiple political parties and people would learn to work things out. Without conflict you could work on the infrastructures of the countries around the world. You could work on solving the world's problems of disease, hunger, overpopulation, ignorance, the environment, and so on. You could have an atmosphere based on cooperation instead of divisiveness.
I tried to pick one concept that might have a ripple effect of beneficial nature.

When my cat can continue her nap on the lawn chair and isn't terrorized and trying to get into the house.
Where some obese homeowner goes out and rakes his own lawn debris instead of hiring a truck, a trailer, and 4 or 5 workers do it for him.

(10,893 posts)Absolutist thinking is the cause of much of our disputes, whether in religion, the political realm, or some other part of life. With religion, many people have difficulty accepting others' beliefs (whether they are religious or not), and instead want to impose their own beliefs on others. With the religious right, they have been doing things like terrorizing contraceptive providers and (in various countries) establishing theocracies, while some non-believers of religion view all of those of faith in the same light and ridicule the concept altogether--some making the claim that it is the cause of all the world's problems, despite there being numerous other factors involved.
In U.S. politics, one of our two major parties has succumbed to absolutism. Many of its most die-hard and prominent supporters have openly decried people who are middle-of-the-road politically. To people such as Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter, centrists have no place in the GOP anymore. The politicians in the GOP now have to walk lock-step with the hard-right on virtually every issue, or risk being primaried and losing their jobs. As a result of moderate-minded politicians being driven out of the GOP, it makes it much tougher to get anything accomplished in D.C. anymore as working class communities continue to suffer and as various groups of people still don't have all their rights respected. The whole country loses.
Even outside of religion and politics, absolutism is commonplace. For instance, people regularly get automatically judged for how they look, whether or not they've been to jail, the sports team that they root for, etc. Just because of how a person looks, he or she may get followed around in stores or get pulled over by the police. And after a person is in jail, there are those people who look at you as an animal just for being behind bars, despite being unaware of the circumstances that led to your arrest. And in sports, fans of certain teams have a bad reputation, like how Oakland Raider fans are supposedly known for being gangbangers and trashy. There are wild fans of all sports teams, not just the Raiders, and only a handful of Raider fans are like that.
In a nutshell, I would have it to where everyone is seen as an individual, and people's beliefs are all respected.

But they and their little tea-pals and their narrow little minds and their willful ignorance will not stop until they've killed our entire planet - and probably almost every life form on it except for cockroaches, algae, and a few bacteria. They are quite literally toxic.
