A trucker, having spotted an Illinois police officer speeding in the rain while using a mobile phone, takes action, using his horn to pull the cop over and then taking him to task.
The trucker nearly earned a ticket for unlawful use of horn, and got a very close once-over for any other potential violations for his efforts. But after returning to the truck, the cops attitude changes, becoming remarkably contrite, letting the trucker off surprisingly lightly under the circumstancesthe cop actually says I didnt want to hurt your record.
The police officer even admits Honestly I wasnt paying attention to my speed, among a litany of other abuses, including not remembering, he was using his phone.
As the trucker says at the end of the video, thats what happens when they know youre recording.
Looks like its time to buy that dash cam youve been wanting.

(28,762 posts)for being so stupid that he couldn't even remember being on the phone! When I drove trucks I can't remember how many times I saw state cops speeding and playing with their laptops.

(14,549 posts)Sat in the parked car about 10 minutes waiting for some visibility before a car hit him from the front at about 50 mph. Totalled his car.
His airbags popped and his head hit something so the next thing he remembers is a cop at the window of his car asking "Are you okay?"
He said "I'm okay, please check the other car."
The cop says "I'm the other car."

(22,000 posts)I'm sure he had a good case of whiplash. A car hitting you at 50 mph is scary.

(22,000 posts)Not only that it was a hit and run. Thankfully another driver saw the whole thing happen and went after them and got the plate numbers. The police tracked the guy down cowering in his parents house. I of course got stuck with the deductible, but at least was able to press charges.

(60,336 posts)And yes got stuck with the deductible. The driver of the other vehicle was taken away by ambulance. They were lucky though that I hadn't shoved her cell phone up her butt. She was texting as she slammed into me.

(22,000 posts)I think it was a VERY good thing the person was in the ambulance. That cell phone would have been pretty hard to get out.
Did you see the VW commercial on texting while driving? An absolute masterpiece and a very cool experiment.

(28,762 posts)at the local pub. He fled also and parked his car in the barn and locked himself up in the house. The cops came and he hid. The next day when he was sober he turned himself in to police. He got off pretty easy considering he didn't get a DUI.

(22,000 posts)My first wife's brother had many DUI's in Oregon and a suspended license. He moved to a state back east and got a license and continued racking up the DUI's and got his license suspended there too. One night he was driving home drunk and going like 75 miles an hour on a curvy road and wrapped his car around a telephone pole. He lived, his girlfriend didn't. I was there when he called his sister and she asked me what to do and my exact words were "you better make sure he has the best lawyer the family can afford, he's going to need it". He ended up being found guilty of manslaughter and getting 15 years. His mother died about a year or so later and he couldn't be there.
