Walter Paul knows well the power of words to move people, to make things happen, to create a place for himself, to put smiles on the faces of his hardworking parents.

And he has put that knowledge, that skill, to remarkable use.

Walter, who graduated from Creighton Prep in May, recently won the National Speech & Debate Association’s National Student of the Year Award. According to his coach, he’s the first Nebraska student to claim one of the 130,000-member organization’s top honors.

He also placed sixth in the original oratory category at the organization’s national tournament last month in Overland Park, Kansas.
