What's With This 'Obama Is Backing Elizabeth Warren Over Hillary' Story?

ADAM CHANDLER

The New York Post leads with a story today about a secret plan for President Obama to throw his support behind Sen. Elizabeth Warren for the 2016 Democratic nomination instead of Hillary Clinton. Let's have a look at this.

Edward Klein writes:

Publicly, Obama has remained noncommittal on the 2016 race, but privately he worries that Clinton would undo and undermine many of his policies. There’s also a personal animosity, especially with Bill Clinton, that dates from their tough race six years ago."

I would say the first red flag here is that Obama, despite having initially campaigned from the left, has governed (to the frustration of some) largely from the center. This is where Hillary perches. This idea that a Clinton presidency would "undo and undermine" the president's policies just seems silly.

However, the first real red flag seems to be the author himself, who has taken some artistic license in writing about the Clintons before. Here's Paul Janensch on Klein's book The Truth About Hillary.

The most sensational allegation is that Bill Clinton raped Hillary when they were on vacation in Bermuda and that Hillary became pregnant with their daughter, Chelsea, as a result. The only evidence to support this is what two sources -- both unnamed -- claim Bill told them.

Five Reasons The Media Shouldn't Trust Discredited Journalist Ed Klein

Despite being exposed as a self-promoting smear peddler after having his work repeatedly debunked, discredited author and conspiracy theorist Ed Klein has been repeatedly given a platform by many in the right-wing media. Here are the top five reasons the media should not trust Klein's shoddy work.

conservatives or of some other political bent. It's been posted even on DU more than once already. The source doesn't matter, it seems, if a story supports one's bias. That's my view of it.

It's just the beginning, really. Even in 2014, two years and more before the 2016 campaign begins, the prospect of Hillary Clinton running for President so scares some people that they're looking for anything they can use against her.

Watch for it to ramp up into a veritable frenzy after the November mid-term elections.

6. Of course the GOP doesn't want her to run, polls show her ahead of all their candidates.

Don't know what is the problem with some of the others. Some complain about Hillary's connections with Wall Street, there is not any way for a candidate to run without Wall Street connected money.

she'd win in a race against one of their clown-car candidates. The GOP would much prefer a Democratic candidate from farther toward the left. They believe they'd have a chance, then. Many Democrats would also prefer a candidate who is more progressive than Hillary Clinton. Some have even said they won't vote for Hillary, even if she is the nominee in the end.

So far, nobody has even declared that they will be running. Nobody will until after the 2014 elections. I know one thing for certain: I will be voting for the Democratic candidate in November of 2016. The alternative is unthinkable.

10. If they decide to vote or not to vote then their decision is not in the best of their interest.

Truly. There will be an election. Either a Democrat or a Republican will be elected as President. Not voting is acquiescence to whatever others decide, it seems to me. I vote. I always vote. I'm not willing to let others decide for me. Sometimes my candidate, who is always a Democrat, wins. Sometimes not. But I vote.

If it bashes someone they don't like, then it gets posted no matter the source.

Pathetic...........

It's already started and it's bound to increase over time.

I saw a Monica Lewinsky post earlier today. Can Vince Foster be far behind? Maybe even the "rumor" that Hillary is a lesbian. Someone will be publishing all of that stuff in the RW media, so I'm sure it will show up here, too.

Very sad, I think. Personally, I'd rather vote in the primary election for someone other than Hillary, myself. If a candidate with real potential to win the general election shows up and announces a candidacy, we'll have some choice in the primaries. But, it's going to need to be someone who really has a chance.

For example, there was much I liked about Dennis Kucinich, but he was never viable as a Presidential candidate, and couldn't even win a single primary. We need someone with broad-based support among Democrats nationwide, if there's to be an alternative to Hillary. Right now, I don't see such a candidate who is likely to announce. Elizabeth Warren would make a good President on economic grounds, but that's almost the only thing we know about her. Bernie Sanders, I love, but I don't see him getting the kind of general support required to have a chance to win even a single primary, except maybe, just maybe, in his home state.

I don't think Biden will run. The other names I've seen have zero name recognition, and aren't really viable, either.

My guess is that the candidate after the convention in 2016 will be Hillary. She'll get my vote, and I think she's a likely winner, although that will depend on who the Republicans choose. Their usual clown car list, though, doesn't include anyone I think could beat Hillary, so I'm not all that concerned.

It doesn't matter how outlandish, taken out of context or just plain incorrect an article may be, as long as it bashes the Clintons someone will run to post it over here.
