NWS in Grand Rapids, MI confirms surprise EF-1 tornado last night.

It was a wild & wooly evening here in Grand Rapids last night. The tornado was several miles south of me, but we got torrential rains, flooding, lots of lightning, and wind. It lasted for hours--my satellite reception went out about 10:15 & it faded in & out until around 2:00 a.m. We had a lot of rain. That's one thing I don't like about satellites--clouds interfering with reception. We had thunder & lightning from 10:00 p.m. until a little after 2:00 a.m. The surprising thing is that there were no watches issued & a warning wasn't issued until it was pretty much over. They got caught unawares with this storm. At least a heavily damaged business that boards dogs said that all of the canine guests were uninjured. Yay! There were no serious people injuries.

absolutely NO time between the lightning & thunder struck about 2:15. Poor little Otis jumped 5 feet in the air, and so did I, LOL. It was one of those rogue bolts because the storm had essentially passed us by then. It took another hour for my heart to settle back into its normal rhythm.

Fried a bunch of my electronics, including my iMac at the time.

Had I been standing outside my door at the time, I wouldn't be here today.

lived in a house with a well & electric pump. I was about 5 at the time & was in the bathroom doorway watching my dad shave during a storm. All of a sudden, KABOOM, then blue flames shot out of the water faucet. Lightning had hit the well & traveled the pipes. It knocked my dad on his ass & knocked me into the hall. Even though I have a city water system, I NEVER use water during a storm. Glad you were OK, but RIP on the Mac!
