Yes things are still hard for the middle class and very hard for the working poor - but compared with 2008, happy days are here again.

(89 posts)The drop in unemployment is real. I actually think this coming month's job growth will exceed 300,000.

(6,960 posts)... it is a trap.
Now 'we' are all concerned about the 'immigration crisis'; about Iraq ... again; about polls; about Hillary Clinton.
I am sorry to say this, but it is true: Barack Obama and Joe Biden are lousy self-promoters.
And Democratic candidates across the nation are suffering from the two guys at the top not being able to cheer for the jobs report; for the ACA; for the stock market; etc.
Finally, all this Democratic yammering about Hillary Clinton and 2016 is a real bummer ... one, she is no inspirational leader and she is a has-been, and, two, we got 2104 to be concerned about first.

They're just going along doing their jobs, excellently I might add, and the media is not relaying that to the rest of America

(6,960 posts)Obama and Biden maybe doing their jobs well as far as running the government.
But the Obama political operation -- except when he is on the ballot -- has not been very good.
And here we are again in another Congressional election year and the Obama political organization seems to be flailing about with no clear, cogent message.
I blame Pres. Obama for demoralizing base liberal and Democratic voters for the 2010 debacle.
Frankly, he seems to be on track for a repeat in 2014.
The Democrats have a wealth of Repuglican-Tea Party extremism to use as a great motivator this year -- it is July now -- it is time to roll it out if they've got it.
Otherwise, let's hope that Warren, Sanders, Sherrod Brown, etc. and other progressive Democrats will step to the fore and make the case for electing and reelecting Democrats to Congress.
The 'right wing media' cannot not be blamed for every shortcoming -- Democrats need to make the case -- and with early voting and mail ballots making October 'election day', it is not too soon.

(32,034 posts)if not for Congress holding everything like infrastructure or unemployment insurance hostage, the economy would be doing better!
Chris Matthews is too shallow for my tastes - i prefer Rachel Maddow or Lawrence O'Donnell or Amy Goodman.

Using him as authority for anything other than how to keep your job while MSNBC does a 180 is questionable, at best.

(45,251 posts)During the Ensign scandals, Tweety allowed as how Ensign was a President "right out of Central Casting."
How long ago did Central Casting cease to exist? * (And that's ignoring the shallowness of the rest of the comment, which was hard to ignore.)
And thank heaven for Netflix or no one born after 1950, except maybe a film major, would get the rest of his film references.
Sorry, but, if you are on air five times a week, you really should get a little more current with pop culture. (That's why it's called pop.)
*Ouch. I just googled. Central Casting, founded in 1925, apparently still exists, but no one seems to talk about it these days.
My apologies to anyone who read the post before this correction. And to Tweety, on that one point.
