Rick Perry Really Really Wants the Border Crisis to Be Obama's Katrina

Texas Governor Rick Perry got his turn to speak about his meeting with President Obama on Wednesday night, hours after the president characterized the pair's roundtable immigration discussion as "constructive." Speaking on Fox News's "Hannity," Perry took the opportunity to say that President Obama was acting like George W. Bush after Katrina, because he didn't plan on visiting the Texas border during his trip this week. “I think about the criticism that George W. Bush received when he didn’t go to New Orleans [during] Katrina, this is no different,” he said.

President Obama said on Wednesday that he didn't plan a border trip this week because he was already addressing the crisis through proposing informed solutions to fix the problem, and didn't need a "photo op." "This isn't theater," he added. Perry told Fox host Sean Hannity that during his brief one-on-one meeting with Obama before the roundtable discussion, he explained why he wanted a presidential border visit anyway: "I really want you to come and see this because this is important for you to absorb as a father, but more importantly as President of the United States," Perry said he told Obama. The insinuation is a familiar one from critics of the president: Perry is making a character assessment about Obama's ability to "lead." That came up more directly later in the interview:

As I was discussing with him, I did a lot of listening, he let me know what the feeling is about these things, what the fixes were, I interjected where I could. The fact is, I don’t know whether he heard what I said. Because a leader acts, and what I haven’t seen out of this president are actions that make me think he understands what’s going on. It’s one of the reasons I want him to come to the border.”

“He needs to understand instinctively and intuitively and with his own two eyes what’s going on on the border,” Perry added to Hannity.

it's bush's mess at the border to begin with. His law, signed by him. Supported by repugs.

His constant insistence that the President visit the border, almost smacks of some sort of set up...maybe even an attack on the POTUS!

With his past remarks about seceding and his constant personal attacks against this administration...I wouldn't put anything past Perry and his supporters!!

They're trying to sell the idea that Bush's Katrina failure was only that he didn't show for a photo-op right away.
Goddamit I hate every last one of these evil bastards.

I actually do believe we should secure our boarders - having undocumented aliens in the country is a problem - they are often preyed upon and abused. Of course one way to better secure our boarders is to be more generous in how many people we let into this country - but people who are here undocumented are a problem.

That said - has something happened recently other than that big and embarrassing protest in murietta? Or is this just Tea Party nuts making a mountain out of a molehole?

How mature. I wonder if the Republicans keep a play book of slights to even up the score on. Sometimes I think they are all about revenge. That is when they aren't obstructing the government to make the President look bad. They don't govern for the people. They 'play' politics. And they play dirty. The sucker-punch of of fake outrage over contrived media hoaxes. Filthy, dirty, greedy, sellout, hypocrites. I have no respect for these partisan hacks. They are hollow.

What makes me sick is how fast Democrats are smeared with the tainted brush, and drug into Republicans' corrupt behavior, perceptions by the public. We are not as bad as them. Once in a while one of us are caught with our pants down, but most of the big scandals are Republicans. They put on a religious facade and the behave like sociopaths. Most of them are charming con men that lie to your face and make speeches with the skill of a film actor. Enough Rant over.

I just like to rant and rave some days.
