Obama also paid for the orders of two people he cut in front of at the popular barbecue spot.

Bruce Finstad of Houston and his daughter Faith Finstad of Austin received a presidential gift of three pounds of beef, two pounds of beef, a half-pound of sausage, and a half-pound of turkey.

Jay Janner

"Hold on," Obama said at one point. "How many folks are y'all feeding?"

"I love Austin," Obama said. "I love the people. I love the barbecue, which I will get right after this."

The TPP and the TISA *must* be stopped, and I consider this kind of adulatory fluff offensive while the president is actively working to advance these assaults on Americans and on our democratic system.

Complaints about "rudeness" here are absurd. These aren't normal policy disagreements that can be set aside for a barbecue and cheering session for the president who is pushing these assaults. We aren't talking about policies we merely dislike but that still fall safely within the bounds of expectation for a democratic, representative government. This is something far more malignant: This is the deliberate trading away in secrecy of our ability to use our own democratic systems to protect ourselves from predatory corporations.

I think Americans still look at the poverty and the miserable conditions workers in other countries are forced to endure, and they don't understand why, and they honestly don't think it can happen here. But these trade agreements are exactly what's necessary in order for corporations to make it happen here. Corporations have looted entire countries and impoverished entire populations for profit. We aren't special to them. They are buying our government and pushing agreements like this, that dismantle and allow corporations to overrule the very protections that have kept it from happening here. We can't afford to be distracted by fluff and propaganda while our own president is actively assisting this.

38. what you don't fucking understand is that people can respect this president as an individual
Fri Jul 11, 2014, 03:30 AM

. . . and still oppose his policies.

I wrote very clearly that there is practically ZERO daylight between your view of the issues you raised on this thread and my own. But, still you insist that we have to emulate you in your protest of anything humanizing about this President.

Why can't you leave people here alone? You're not doing anything on this thread but aggravating people. You don't want to be distracted by what you see as 'fluff' then put me on fucking ignore. No one asked you to look at this thread. No one.

Don't kid yourself either that all of that grandstanding you're doing makes you any more concerned or active about the issues you raised. I don't know how anyone could be so delusional as to believe that deliberately aggravating people (who actually agree with you on the issue you raised) is accomplishing anything.

You just look like a fool coming on here with this shit, and you look even more ignorant, understanding that there's no substantive difference between how you feel about trade agreements from this administration than I do.

In fact, you're no better than a disruptor for continuing, even after you got agreement. It's borderline psychotic. You're accomplishing NOTHING looking for backslapping approval on this thread. You've accomplished NOTHING bullying me around or ridiculing me for indulging in this little slice of humanity.

I don't come onto your threads with bullshit about your posts being a distraction from whatever I support. That would be absurd. You should recognize that and check yourself.

I made an effort to reach out and generate an understanding on the post above and you rewarded that with more derision on this thread. You don't deserve to expect me to share your concerns, but I even went to Manny's bullshit thread and demonstrated that I had enough of an understanding and appreciation of the issues you raised here to make a substantive dissent with the President. I can see now that you're just interested in pushing people around. You're the LAST person I'd choose to advocate for anything I believe in. It's just amazing to me that you actually believe this is proper advocacy to bully people around, EVEN AFTER THEY AGREE WITH YOU!!

Why You Don’t Know Obama Has Created 4.5 Million Jobs

Do you have any idea how many more jobs Obama has created than Bush did? You don’t, because liberals are less likely than conservatives to cheerlead.

"The terrific June jobs report may be the signal we’ve been waiting for that we’re finally turning the psychic corner. The overall jobs number was great at 288,000, and the unemployment rate was down to 6.1 percent. But the most important number was that the employment-to-population ratio, which many economists think of as the truest measure of the jobs market, was up a bit to 59 percent, a high for the recovery, indicating that maybe more people are finally out looking for work than staying home.

A lot of liberals puzzle over why the Obama administration isn’t getting more credit, or doesn’t do a better job of making sure it gets credit, for such good economic news. There are a lot of theories, and most of them hold varying amounts of water. But the main reason to me is fairly obvious: Liberals don’t speak as one big fat propagandistic voice on this subject in remotely the same way conservatives do when a Republican president is in power.

Before I get into all that, I want to review some numbers with you, because unless you’re a hyper-informed political junkie, I doubt you know them. How many net jobs has the economy created during Barack Obama’s presidency, and how many did it create during George W. Bush’s tenure? Notice first that I wrote “has the economy created” rather than “did Obama create/did Bush create.” I think it’s a better description of reality.

I also should note that I just measured the numbers under each president—I gave Bush the numbers from January 2001 to December 2008, and Obama the numbers from January 2009 to the present, with the following asterisk. January 2009 was when Obama became president, but he didn’t start until the 20th, of course. That was a particularly awful month, with 798,000 jobs lost. So I think it’s reasonable to give Bush, whose policies helped cause the meltdown anyway, two-thirds of that 798,000. (January 2001, by the way, was a tiny number, 30,000 jobs lost, but just to be consistent, I assigned only 10,000 of those to Bush.)

........"
