The percentage of Americans without health insurance fell to a new low in recent months, according to the results of a Gallup poll released Thursday.
Specifically, the uninsured rate fell to 13.4 percent in the second quarter of 2014. That's down from its peak of 18 percent in the third quarter of last year, and it's the lowest quarterly average that Gallup has seen since it began tracking this type of data in 2008.
The percentage of uninsured Americans has fallen steadily since the beginning of Obamacare's open enrollment period for buying insurance in October. President Obama's health law mandates that nearly all Americans either have health insurance or pay a fine.

Republicans who signed up for Obamacare this year are liking their new insurance coverage, according to a new survey.
A poll of Obamacare enrollees published Thursday by the Commonwealth Fund found that 74 percent of newly insured Republicans are happy with the plans they bought. Overall, 77 percent of people who had insurance prior to the rollout of the Affordable Care Act said they are pleased with the new coverage they obtained in the last year.

About 20 million Americans have gained health insurance or enrolled in new insurance under the health care reform law, according to a new report.
The report from the Commonwealth Fund, published Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine, credits President Barack Obamas health reform law with an estimated 20 million enrollments as of May 1. The report looks at both people who gained coverage through insurance marketplaces, and people who gained coverage due to provisions in the Affordable Care Act (such as those qualifying for Medicaid and those now covered through the Childrens Health Insurance Program).

(50,408 posts)there are those who seem to dislike positive OPs about President Obama and Democrats especially if they are posted by ProSense. There was a time on DU when the provision of links was appreciated and, if lacking, often requested. I think the majority of DUers still appreciate them, I know I do.

(50,408 posts)it both helps produce a better understanding of the issue surrounding the facts cited and gives credence to the post, imo.
I am not sure I understand if you are saying you had posts deleted because they didn't have links or that other posts were deleted because of that? I am assuming that happened in DU2?
freshwest
(53,661 posts)everyone posting knew the rules - I need to clarify, those were the OPs. Those who wanted to refute had to make links, though, unless they were upfront with it being an opinion.
It made for some good discussions, it's easier to mull things over and debate when it's about facts. People accept or rebut those and you find the grey areas.
But most of that was about a decade ago when the net was really open, IMO. We watched as things got scrubbed during Shrub's term and then the great dumbing down and belligerence that took over after PBO was elected, and by the time the Teapots took over in 2010, it was a lost cause.
DU2 was a breath of fresh air but not so much now. Attacks on Democrats are more virulent and echo the right wing media, but the ones doing them claim that's not where they are coming from. On the other boards, people of different leanings argued from their life, more open and honest.
If a thread supported liberals and Dems, the wingers stayed off of it completely. They didn't have facts to refute. But we went to argue with them on their threads and they responded although they never gave a link, which they had to state was opinion, and not try to make it fact.
It's not been so good here for a while, but I'm here, as there are some good threads. At times the level of discourse is better than elsewhere, at times it is much worse. But DU is so very large compared to some other places and has so many features, it's a real winner technically.
Spazito
(50,408 posts)links were expected for sure, I know when I first joined DU I learned very quickly links were a must if you were making statements containing facts otherwise the first response you would get was 'link please' and rightly so.

(11,175 posts)You linked to outside sources, as opposed to linking to a DU post that had links to outside sources (or, worse, linking to a DU post that had a link to a DU post that had links to outside sources).
You prefaced each link with a summary of what I could expect to find there. If the point for which you're citing the link is something I already know or find perfectly credible, I don't need to click through. If your summary makes me think, "Wait, what?" then I can click the link for more information.
By contrast, a post that contains a barrage of blue links, some to other posts and most without such a summary, appears to be nothing more than proof by intimidation. It conveys the impression, "You aren't allowed to disagree with me unless you click on all the links and all the links in those links and follow every trail of links to its end and read everything along the way." For me, at least, that style has zero persuasive value.
If ProSense and others would more often follow the style in your OP, I would more often find their posts informative and worth reading.

(53,661 posts)ProSense is like a reference library for time sensitive issues from the political realm. She is the best at providing real information from the Democratic view.
And passionate and unafraid to stand up for what she believes and herself. Her use of s is far better than the spurious attacks she gets a ton of on every OP and many of her posts.
Those posters have problems with facts, they NEVER refute her, just attack her personally or bluster. But she keeps going.
As far as those who hate thread links that go to more links at original sources...
It's called research. She does it for us and shares it here. Many of us are grateful for her work here, once again, is not paid. DUers, with rare exceptions, are just ordinary citizens, not political professionals.
It's very telling that those who accuse her of that don't go to the threads of paid writers and say that. If she was employed by OFA or Obama or the Democratic Party what is the crime in that since she's posting facts, not yelling at everyone to agree and calling those who don't a lot of names here?
The hate directed at her is because she supports Obama. It's not about her. It's about the haters.
I don't post 'hurtfull' to DUers, BTW. But I'm not gonna hold back talking about the destruction of the RepubliClowns, Libertarians, bigots and Baggers.

(16,646 posts)Basically we are back to where it was when he took office. The rise in the uninsured tracks the rise in unemployment, and the sustainment of that through the middle at roughly 17% is related to the enduring under employment associated with the economic collapse. It implies that the end result of the ACA is to maintain the original status quo. I suspect the numbers would look much better if all of the states had adopted the medicaid expansion. But the ACA was sold on getting these numbers down into the single digits, rough in the 8% range. I'm not sure that all of that can be explained away by the medicaid expansion.

I like much of what ProSense posted, but there wasn't a whole lot of original writing or thought. It was kind of recitation. Interesting.
I often asked questions like why do you think xyz. I never got answers that were well thought out or showed much depth. ProSense didn't seem to be able to explain why she agreed with the posts she posted. I could never get to know a person behind the posts.
It wasn't a matter of agreeing or disagreeing. I usually agree some and disagree some with everyone on DU. But I just couldn't get a personality to peak through the blue blurbs. I couldn't get a debate or interaction beyond the very superficial.
Very strange.

losing privacy. But here you are not satisfied with understandinding Prosenses opinions based on what they post. I dont feel like i have a right to know more about a person than they are willing to reveal online....there are many many valid and legitimate reasons not to be an open book online particularly when it is a political site. You know well for example that NO govt employee is allowed to be very involved in politics even entry level and support positions. So we have no idea why some are less forthcoming than others........there are good reasons why some people may wish to remain anonymous.....

(32,324 posts)They made the mistake of choosing Anthem as their insurer.
Then a few months later, they fell and busted their knee cap. Just as the news media had been saying for a little while, the fact you see some physician's smiling face on a photo on a website doesn't mean that person actually honors the insurer (In this case Anthem.)
Long story short - Person who busted their kneecap got screwed over royally. Had to go out of county to get their knee treated. And paid big big bucks, as it turns out there is a five thousand dollar deductible. Oh, and if they had not bothered to be insured, the MediCal insurance could have been applied for at the time of the accident and no expenses what so ever, as the person involved in this is close to indigent.
Anyway, one thing about ProSense, there have been times in their history here on DU, when they post every five to thirty minutes for days on end.
Whatever is in their water, some of us need it occasionally for work projects.
