They only serve to promote cliquish high school behavior.

But then again 13 is the minimum age here...

No lie. If 13 year olds were this involved in Democratic politics, 2020 could be an epic election.

Now "average mental age" could be another discussion.....

I'd love it if DUers could agree on this simple proposition: Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren may have differences, but we DUers are fighting against John Boehner, Antonin Scalia, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, et. al.

Fire can warm or burn, and those not close to it can be left in the cold.

Some people; the disheartened ones may need a flame to reignite their passion for the righteous struggle.

Thanks for the thread, Algernon Moncrieff.

Wars would be a lot better, I think, if guys would say to themselves sometimes "Jesus — I'm not going to do that to the enemy. That's too much."

Kurt Vonnegut

We (you, me, the other thousands of DUers) are supposed to all be here fighting the good fight against the GOP. Instead, we spend a Helluva lot of time being downright nasty and rude to one another (and I plead guilty to this. Sometimes playing smackback gets the best of me in a heated thread).

I, too, hate gravedancing threads.

28. I think any thread where DU is talking about DU is by definition, meta.
Fri Jul 11, 2014, 02:49 AM

Including, of course, this one.

If people want meta back so badly they should march over to ATA and request it. Or rename GD meta.

Otherwise it's gone for a reason.

36. I think admin has welcomed turning GD into a mini-Meta
Fri Jul 11, 2014, 07:11 AM

so there's no reason to request a separate Meta in ATA. Plus juries generally don't hide appreciations or grave dancing threads which suggest that our community 'standards' allow both. Personally, I'd be happy to see both go away by fiat but until then I'm all for allowing both. It's a relief valve.

But the problems of DU excessively talking about DU apparently overtook whatever value there was.

Certainly, everyone who participated in meta- myself included- thought their own perspective and participation and expressions were helpful, it was just those other people with the other views that were the problem. Of course.

So I'm sort of on the "make it all go away by fiat" page, at this point. I don't think the community would be markedly damaged without grave dancing threads, for instance, despite the tradition (and again, I've danced in more than a few myself) and appreciation threads are probably more suited to the lounge anyway.

Are they meant to take a poke at the Hosts of General Discussion? It seems to me that filling the forum up with bizarre stuff just creates more work for those who are charged with the task of cleaning it all up.

I appreciate DU but I do have to wonder when it goes off-the-wall.

The posters of those threads probably have good intentions, but most of these threads just feel like high school all over again to be honest, and I don't participate in them much at all and sometimes just trash the threads. While a handful of DUers get shout outs and praises, everyone else gets left out of course. It brings about the impression that certain DUers are more treasured and more valuable and insightful than others.
