Who said (it was a DUer) this wasn't monsoonal weather? What a day! I got POUNDED with close lightning and heavy rain, but nary a fire. The Tucson area had about 1500 lightning strikes between 3-9 PM. Still flashing in the distance.
Spillover the Santa Catalina front range. This happens very quickly, and to get it illuminated in a setting sun is rare!
Barely above the clouds at almost 9000 feet, with Tucson lights below.
A dark and stormy night!

(1,245 posts)My entire street was a mini-lake for a bit ... we got WET up here. I actually dig this kinda weather change ... it was literally 113F at like 2:00pm w/o a cloud in the sky, and by 3:15pm it's 80F and ... storming like a hurricane. I hope monsoons last a while this year ... only thing to look forward to from June-August.

(16,200 posts)I've been through two when I lived in the Southeast. It's neat because the horizontal rain stops for a few minutes before restarting in the opposite direction.

(51,076 posts)I guess this job is a continuation to the job you had all those years ago when we were just young men wanting so much to believe that what we were doing was right but knowing down deep in our heart that it wasn't. Some of us realized that early on, some it took a while. Many pretty much did come around to that way of thinking though.
You were doing the right thing then and you're doing the right thing now, saving lives.
I hope you find the time to write a book about your life
