One of Arizonas oldest public charter schools is under fire from the Americans United for Separation of Church and State for using textbooks that actively promote religious interpretations of American history.
According to the group, Heritage Academy uses two books by controversial anti-communist author Cleon Skousen The 5,000 Year Leap and The Making of America that push Christian nation propaganda and other religious teachings on impressionable, young students, according to Alex Luchenitser, the associate legal director for Americans United.
................
In The Making of America, Skousen included an essay by Fred Albert Shannon, in which he argued that if black children ran naked it was generally from choice, and when the white boys had to put on shoes and go away to school they were likely to envy the freedom of their colored playmates.

The religious fundamentalists are trying to teach slavery as a good thing to children, all state funded.........and where is the media on this obscenity?
And black kids were envied by white kids for the "freedom" of not wearing shoes....white privilege has a long, long history.

(1,957 posts)Freedom from birth...parents who are they and will he get to stay with and for how long? The freedom to not know if they will eat that day(unlike his white "playmate" who can experience of boredom of eating at a dinner table with real plates and cups. While the ones HAS to wear shoes and other has the luxury to go barefoot while being a water boy for those in the field. He also has the "adventure" of sidestepping snakes, cotton worms and sharp stones day after day. The freedom of not knowing if a day may come when he is sold. The freedom of not knowing if he will ever be free! Boy what a deal!

Absolutely f'ing reprehensible. I'm not sure how this could be any worse.

(16,296 posts)with all that fresh air and being with their family (maybe) they got to go to their paid for shacks that their masters had provided where they ate some of that good ol' soul food chock full of greens and such. Then late in the evening they all gathered around the community fire to sing some songs. Who could not envy such a rich life, great except for the occasional whippings .
I tell you, I don't know why the blacks ever wanted to have those shackles removed. I can just imagine little Johnny Randolph looking at envy at his former playmates enjoying their "freedom" in the fields as he trudged off to school .
Unbelievable, wonder how these authors are going to approach the American/Indian history or the Holocaust?
