Just as the ship got righted economicaly it seems like there have been a constant stream of no-win crises.
It is making my head hurt and I don't have to actually deal with it, I am just watching from afar.
Wow just wow

(16,286 posts)The wrong reaction by the wrong person in the next 24 hours could start WWIII
what i did NOT add because it would have started a fight is
"thank god Obama, not McCain, is president right now"
moments earlier a couple of the christian women were talking about how angry they are they have to help the Brown refugees
they didnt say Brown, what I wanted to say was "I wonder how helpful you would be willing to be if they had blonde hair and blue eyes"

(24,979 posts)And usually they had a hand in creating them, whether intentionally or accidentally.
Obama can be praised for seeking talks with Iran. Not for backing the coup d'etat in Honduras - a direct cause of the current refugee crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border - and certainly not for backing the current Kiev government with its neo-Nazi element and actively encouraging the violent offensive against the Russian population in the east.

(1,850 posts)probably pretty much all of them. Dealing with world crises goes with the job.

Postwar periods are very prone to disruptive events.

(9,893 posts)The only one I can add is maybe Wilson during WWI. He had problems with aggressive German U-boat action that sunk US ships and other ships carrying Americans. It wasn't as bad as WWII, but we did not enter WWI for almost three years after it started, and Wilson was on a real tight wire for all that time. It must have been something of a brief relief when we finally did declare war and enter on the side of the allies. Tough going after that, though. War is always a tough on on presidents and on nations.

(30,439 posts)Can you imagine if McCain won in 2008?
I honestly think we could have seen a nuclear holocaust by now.
He's that crazy.

(65,616 posts)The best thing we ever did was elect Obama into office, twice! As far as I am concerned, he prevented WWIII and he will do it against despite the call from Cold War assholes like McSame to destroy the earth in order to save freedoms.

(32,077 posts)That following the biggest depression in U.S. history. FDR had far more to deal with than Obama ever has.

(6,719 posts)Some of the previous responses help me to remember that, yes, presidents do have a constant stream of situations which turn their hair grey. Obama has gotten really grey recently.
wow indeed. Sending hope.

He kept us going through all that, and was an absolutely remarkable man.
Eleanor wasn't bad, either.

(17,064 posts)... at times quite vicious. Truman had the famous GOP "do-nothing" Congress obstructing him. BTW, the "do-nothing" Congress did about 3X the work the present one has.

(59,504 posts)In his first term, he had 68 Democrats in the Senate and 57% of the House. That is when he passed most of the New Deal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/76th_United_States_Congress
