If they claim it only applies to the Israelites, then respond "Then so does the rest of Leviticus, including that part about homosexuality"

(12,723 posts)One allowed them to keep people with dark skin slaves for 400+ years and the other lets them kill people who do not love in what they believe is the proper god sanctioned way. The rest is just adventure stories to them.
I am curious how they reconcile the verses in Matthew
Then some children were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, "Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." After laying His hands on them, He departed from there.
Now since everyone knows that america is the greatest, shiniest christian country in the world how can they turn those children away?

(4,118 posts)Many of us interpret 'stranger' to be 'immigrant' in Matthew 25:
34Then the King will tell those on his right hand, 'Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35for I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you took me in. 36I was naked, and you clothed me. I was sick, and you visited me. I was in prison, and you came to me.'
37"Then the righteous will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you; or thirsty, and give you a drink? 38When did we see you as a stranger, and take you in; or naked, and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you?'
40"The King will answer them, 'Most certainly I tell you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.' 41Then he will say also to those on the left hand, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels; 42for I was hungry, and you didn't give me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink; 43I was a stranger, and you didn't take me in; naked, and you didn't clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you didn't visit me.'
44"Then they will also answer, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and didn't help you?'
45"Then he will answer them, saying, 'Most certainly I tell you, inasmuch as you didn't do it to one of the least of these, you didn't do it to me.

(8,322 posts)His response was that the word "foreigner" had been revised from "sojourner" in whatever translation he was using, which suggests that the person in question is a short-timer. Which he then, of course, used to vilify those who "overstay their temporary visas".

He has reminded us that as an infant, Jesus was a migrant whose mom & dad had to flee violence from King Herod and was seeking asylum in Egypt.

Bishop Seitz wants US to look at 'root causes' of influx of undocumented immigrants
The United States needs to look at the "root causes" that are spurring a stream of undocumented Central American immigrants to cross into the U.S., El Paso Catholic Bishop Mark Seitz told a national television audience Sunday.
Seitz also urged that the immigrants be dealt with compassionaely..."We need to find a way to receive them according to existing laws. We must receive people who are seeking asylum. In fact, they are not illegal if they are coming under those circumstances...
Seitz used the analogy of a burning building to explain the immigration situation.
"There are people at the windows ready to jump," he said. "We can say as many times as we want, 'Don't jump. Help is coming.' But if the flames are licking at their backs, they'll jump and they'll look for the safest place to land."
