NBC News producer fired over editing of George Zimmerman 911 call

An NBC News producer has been fired after a misleadingly report on the Trayvon Martin case suggested that shooter George Zimmerman was racially motivated.

The edited audio clip from a 911 call implied that Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer in Sanford, Fla., shot Martin because he was black.

"This guy looks like he's up to no good. He looks black," according to the clip that aired March 27 on the “Today” show.

A transcript of the actual recording of the call between Zimmerman and the 911 dispatcher shows the version that was aired was significantly modified.

1. I'd still like to know the context of this excerpt-- what did they say about it, etc?

I know it's a bad edit, but it also depends how they presented it-- and unfortunately, the RW is having a field day with it.

2. Does it really matter?

I think there's plenty of evidence to indict Zimmerman without that part of the tape. The whole point is it was wrong for him to be so easily dismissed after KILLING SOMEONE!!!

6. Prosecutors have the original 911 tapes.

There is no reason to believe the editted version of the tape aired by NBC will affect the admitting into evidence the original version.

This muddies up the water. It is a side issue that should have never happened. NBC could have tried to get evidence on the other calls, Zimmerman made. My understanding is he called 911 on seven other black males. Clearly he (Zimmerman) has a problem with being a racist. NBC did more to make to throw gas on the flames rather than light on the subject. I am glad this produce got fired.

8. It's just another example of why Zimmerman needs to be arrested

They can't keep having a trial through media in this case. It needs to get in front of a jury.

Which was a bad edit.

Zimmy already looks bad with choice comments, and edit was unnecessary.

The doctored audio made Zimmerman look good?
How so?

sooner or later, this cop hero wannabe was going to kill someone.
Think he may have learned his lesson but he still must pay his debt.
With his life.
In prison.

Type of person. There is a certain amount of sympathy for poor upbringing, but the line is drawn when you hurt someone else. Even if one's family condones it, one has to consider what one is doing. If not, your life is ruined.

A now a young man who could have done something valuable with his life, who had saved his father from a house fire when he was very young, is no more. And if media reports are to be believed (?) the healing on this is a long way off.

He needs to go trial to get all the facts out in the open and make his case, at last, like a 'man' and face the consequences. There is no other proper course, no more running away from this.
