because it looks so much like my niece. She was an amazingly beautiful, sensitive, intense child, whose smile, when she was happy, would warm a small country.

But in the past few years, she's 18 now, she has been in and out of adolescent psych wards. Being very artistic, observant, and compassionate, she is deeply affected by the general fuckedupedness of the world. She seems to be doing better now, and recently graduated from high school, but I fear for her future.

We've got to make the world a better place.

who still inside is still that shining child you fondly recall. I hope she can learn to get in touch with that joy again and recognize it when she sees it in the world. With someone so caring as you in her corner, she will be able to find her touchstone in life. Best hopes to her as she makes her journey and to all of your family as you support her.

Sorta perks you up, doesn't it!
