WACO, Texas (AP) Two fertilizer companies sued following the massive explosion in West last year that killed 15 people are claiming the small town is partly to blame.
El Dorado Chemical Co. and CF Industries contend in court filings that West failed to properly train first responders and had lax protocols in place to battle the April 2013 blast.

(32,610 posts)It was the first responders who died and the town didn't even know what was going on at that facility. This is completely backwards as to who is to blame.

(2,737 posts)who filed that suit should be disbarred. They are the type who are the brunt of every bad lawyer joke you can think of. They are nothing more than dirty money grubbing low lifes that got a law license. Ambulance chasers. Bad apples. Perverts.

(26,582 posts)Since a formal report came out stating the firefighters were not properly trained. They're probably hoping that fault will be spilt (and it's highly likely it would) between the city and the fertilizer company mitigating the financial costs.

(24,780 posts)We talked about this report and he claims better training and equipment mattered not. It was going to blow and the firefighters bought the town time.

(24,780 posts)and was listening on the radio while the others were in the plant fighting the fire. He claims consistently, every time I have talked to him about it that all the firefighters could possibly do was pour water on the fire to keep it cooler long enough to evacuate the nursing home and other nearby places before it blew. He says they knew it would blow and they would die.
He says all the training and equipment in the world would not have kept it from blowing and the firefighters in there bought the town time to prepare for the inevitable. He lost several family members and friends.

You want to know what chutzpah is? That's the guy who murdered his parents, and then threw himself on the mercy of the court because he was an orphan.
