And it's not just young people. It's everywhere.

and the table next to ours was occupied by a man, woman, and (I presume) their baby. The man did not say one word to the woman the entire time- too busy watching TV on his phone. I have a smart phone and love it and all, but I don't understand the obsession with them. Of course, I don't like restaurants with TVs, either. Enjoy your meal, talk to the person with you.

They stand in the middle of the aisles looking at the food on the shelves with their phones glued to their ear, blocking the carts in both directions.

Of course there's an upside to that too. It may be that now they talk to each other more often because they're texting or phoning their spouses or kids or parents.

my wife had knee replacement 6 weeks ago, so I have been the errand runner. I would write it down, but if I have my phone with me and have a question I can call her.

It seems perfectly acceptable now for an entire table to be on their devices and for no one to be talking to anyone else. I'm with you. I don't even like a TV in the dining room of a place. It seems that everyone is so drawn to it, no matter what is on.

Are they afraid they will miss something.

But I may be throwing stones here. When I am at home and we don't have any visitors, I am generally pretty glued to my device.

Except when it comes to supper time. That's the time to sit and talk to each other, imo. And I look forward to it.

Hope you are doing well and enjoying your summer.

I, too, am all over my iPad or S4 at home. I do it while the wife watches TV (I watch very little). I am not a Luddite- hell, I work in flight simulation. But when it is time to talk the toys get put away.

I have a hard time holding my tongue when a guest is sitting down to the dinner I have prepared and starts to text.

Some friends told me about their policy. When people come over, everyone has to put their device in a basket. The first one to pick theirs up has to give everyone else $10.

I'm thinking of trying that out at some point in the future, lol.
