We are hearing that a petition has been started by a few Store Directors stating that if ATD is not reinstated with full authority as CEO or if another potential buyer purchases the company they will not work for any other CEO. They are saying they will resign immediately unless ATD is the CEO and are asking other Store Directors to sign the petition and the early indication is almost all 71 are on board with this...stay tuned and thank you Store Directors for being giraffes.

(102,304 posts)Work has been consuming me lately and this is not a chain of stores in my area, but I keep seeing these posts and can't help but wonder what it is all about. Unionization? Something else?
I'd really love just a short overview of this issue
Thanks in advance!

(59,440 posts)Artie S, the bad cousin, managed to get the majority of the board to vote to fire Artie T, the awesome CEO that the workers all support. Artie T really takes care of the workers while Artie S wants to sell the company to the highest bidder and hired 2 people to replace Artie T. One of them is a guy named Gooch...the same one who destroyed Radio Shack.
The workers have been rallying all week since Artie T got fired and inspired customers to boycott the stores, which we have. Artie T also made a generous offer to Artie S to buy him out. Artie S says he is looking at all offers. The workers say they will not work for anyone else but Artie T.
The Teamsters attempted to come in and organize but the workers refused. They are doing this on their on. They are totally committed from baggers to top management.
I learned today that other supermarkets in the area have donated water to the demonstrators and Dunkin Donuts has been delivering coffee, etc in support of the workers.
That's it in a nutshell.
MB workers have set up a website for updates.

(3,595 posts)Today, stop work for one hour. Tomorrow, two hours., etc. No cash register ring-up during those hours.

(59,440 posts)MB hires a lot of seniors and for some of these, this supplemental money helps them get through the month. As of now, most stores have one or two registers open.
Workers totally understand that MB is the only place they can pick up a few things and they do not resent the few stragglers coming in to shop. They are really concerned about their customers and that's what has made them such a great store over the years.
Someone mentioned that if some of these workers had not worked for pay for a week, they are entitled to file for unemployment benefits which would put a bigger strain on the company. Don't know if that is true, but it may be an option for some of them.
I know the seniors around here who depend on MB for food shopping are hurting but are still committed to boycotting.

(135,425 posts)Someone in my family is in one of those stores shopping several days a week. None of us have gone in the joint since this action started. Business is down over ninety percent.
No need to stop work--there's no business. And a lot of the employees have gone out, anyway.
