With a little more than three months to go until the Nov. 4 election, Republican Neel Kashkari's campaign for governor is almost dead broke.
State campaign finance reports released Thursday showed that as of June 30, the former investment banker had $197,937 in his election account to go along with $164,318 in unpaid bills, leaving him with $33,619 in unencumbered cash.
By contrast, Gov. Jerry Brown's report showed him with $22.3 million in the bank as of the end of June and no debts.
Chalk up at least some of the difference to Kashkari's tough primary struggle against a fellow Republican, Assemblyman Tim Donnelly of Twin Peaks (San Bernardino County). While Brown cruised to a low-cost, first-place finish in the June 3 vote, Kashkari had to reach into his pocket for $2 million of his own money to beat Donnelly and finish second.

but it makes sense because he can't win and people say he is running more to get name recognition and hoping he could win in the future.
